Difference in SQ will be hard to hear.

You will most likely get more power from an amp powering it at 2 ohms than at 4 ohms. Therefore getting slightly louder.

Ohms are the value used for electrical resistance or, in this case, impedance. Impedance is AC resistance and DC resistance is resistance. lol

Take some time to read before asking something like this though. I bet google would even define it for you.

You wont be able to tell a sound difference....

Tell us what sub or amp you have and we can tell you what to get/do.

I understood what he was saying.

Well... at least i do lol.

Were you asking if you powered a sub at 2 ohms (i.e. with dual 4 ohm coils) or if you powered the same sub at 4 ohms (with dual 2 ohm coils) what will the difference in sound be.

Thats what i think he was trying to say...

a 12" alpine dual 2ohms with 2db more and 2hz lower than a 10" alpine dual 4 ohms, im thinking getin a 300x2 chaos amp froma friend, btw there is only $14 diff between the 2 subs

D2 wired to 4 ohms might be louder with twice the motor force. Inductance will also be double that of parallel... or was it double that of a single coil with parallel being half of a single coil? Can't remember. Too lazy to check. Either way, inductance goes up which can affect the higher bass frequencies.

Amps like higher impedances.

I said itll get slightly louder given that an amp will usually put out more power at a lower ohm load and therefore be louder.

Your saying this is not true?

It's possible. I've heard of guys wiring in series and getting just as loud, if not louder, than in parallel. They speculated that it was caused by the force.

Hmmm interesting...
I guess you learn something new everyday.
But if you wire the same sub with the same coils (eg. D2) you will be going from 1 ohm in parallel to 4 ohms series. You will be losing quite a bit of power on most amps...

Yeah, that's true.

I just re-read what I typed "it was caused by the force". LOL

Anyway. It was amplitude (or "loud to the ear") they were talking about.
