Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 02:21 GMT One my HD-5 CDT mids. For some reason I decided to find out exactly how much midbass these things can put out, but turning the x-over down to 75 hz, gain up to have the amp put out 250w, and played the Eagles "One of these nights" at full volume. (the HD-52 set is rated for 180w at 100 hz high pass) (If you've never heard the song, it has massive midbass) That worked well for about a minute until "buzzzzt". Now the one speaker makes noise when it plays. Damit. * flame suit on *

Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 21:53 GMT lol Brad I have 480s but the problem is the speakers just can't take that much power at that low frequencey. I found a guy on caraudio.com who posted two HD-5s for sale for $100 like a year ago I asked if he still has them haha.

Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 22:56 GMT just a random thought, M.S. have u tried swapping spearkers? i'm curious if you fucked a x - over. cause i would think bothe would go not just one. and the noise it makes would rather be pretty distorted then just a noise.

Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 23:21 GMT I thought the same thing initially because I know that MS doesn't use the balance control, so it wasn't like one side was getting more juice than the other. The opening bass line in the song he blew the speaker on is a bit like a sweep. Randy Meisner plays bass lines in the rest of the song that are more in the mid-bass (70-125) range than super low like on most songs and that is exactly the range that is tough on comps.

Monday, April 21, 2008 - 15:13 GMT Ya know Chad I didn't even think of that. I'm a have to find my box with the papers and sh!t and see if they are under warranty. I doubt they will cover it though. Usually warranty does not cover damage caused by running more than the recommended power through the speakers.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 19:06 GMT To be clear, HD-5's are not in stock. I'm not completely sure what the deal is yet. Either they just got behind on a production run, or something's getting changed. HD-5's are the only HD's affected thus far.
