I got to reading a few articles on SPL and i read that if you align the back wave with the front wave so that they are in phase it would get louder, which seems like common knowledge. But the question that i have is how can this be done? In the article said that the back wave needs to be 3 times as long as the front wave for them to be in phase.another question that arises is how do you measure the back wave? any one with expierence please help.

everytime a subs play the back of the cone creates a wave just like the front... the box sometimes reflects the wave back in the cone and creates some kind of cancelation is minimal but it happens....

you can do lots of things to reduce that problems... you can put stuffing on that side or make that side instead of plain like the front built it like a wedge box i dont know if i can explain myself but im in a rush..

NOT:louder it will be but to the ear on preassure wont be too much of a diference.

go to the12volt.com

you can find lots of info there.

He isn't talking about cancellation, more like phase allignment. Polo.

A ported enclosure by nature was designed to do this. By the port turning once it naturally brings the 180 out of phase into allignment to help fortify front wave from sub. Now coloration/cancellation happens when you get rearwave energy bouncing off back wall and reflects back through the cone effectively reducing overall output, Back in the day we use to take a square of conveluted foam and glue it on back wall just behind sub. This is ok for an SQ/SQL setup but not good for SPL due to internal turbulances. You have to remember SPL boxes do not play music all that well, don't really sound great and this is why not to mention the tune. SPL boxes use more transfer function then anything else to maximum power efficiency. Polo..

Here is a box that does this. Actually this is the same as those HO boxes that are going around, same thing. Down fall is boxes become very large, and are very difficult to build. Polo.

Is it just me or did Polo contradict himself constantly in this thread. As for the SPL question, I'm not sure. It would be interesting to know though.

theres lots of tricks that i know that will help increase the loudness to the hear but preassure will be pretty much the same sometimes will be alil more preassure but will not be a significant amount.

one of the main things is the bpx shape.... you have to make sure the waves that are made from the back of the cone wont go back or reflect back to the cone and cause some out of phase...

next thing is the cabin or car is another important thing to look for.because it will tell you how you can mount your speaker box so it wont cause the out of phase.

Scott's vehicle competes with 13 TS-W5102SPL subwoofers powered by 52 PRS-D5000SPL amplifiers, 128 16-volt Kinetic batteries and three Ohio Generator 285-amp alternators producing more than 157,000 watts of power.

yeah right, the subs scott uses are NOTHING like the ones you or I can buy, trust me on that.
I'd go further into detail but its not my business and it wouldnt be fair to pioneer either.

and btw, the amps he uses are fosgates haha. they are certainly more than capable of building spl amps though, however scott happened to have bd1501s in it last time i seen him, he was busy setting the world record and first ever 180 on the bnk, we all about crapped our pants. :D

I dunno Zac, I just pasted what I found. I still say Alan Dantes' record was FAR more impressive. I heard him say somewhere they picked Scott for that mag article over him cuz he isn't white.

actually everything in scotts truck has changed. and I've see a cone assy that scott uses lol. its a 8layer flatwind and he has quad spiders. the off the shelf ones are roundwire and %ual spiders. but he is using less amps and subs now and went from a 4th order to a 6th. trust me I saw the truck upclose in person. he now uses the premier amps.he is a very nice guy. so is kyle weatherspoon. both are world class builders ans as far as I know its only thoe 2 that do all the building on the truck and xb
