i was setting my gain with a DMM and my amp was gettin up to like 68 volts. i figured out that was around 1150-1200watts. how does this happen when my amp can only produce 550?

You are missing the entire concept of why you're looking for a specific value on the voltmeter. Your amp CAN'T produce more power than it's supposed to.

You can turn the gain all the way up and you will get a really high voltage reading. But if you connected the speakers with it like that the signal would be clipped to hell since the amp cannot produce that power.

Sweet if you're running stock or low end speakers right now those will blow them away
