ya i wouldnt reccomend it. it drips really easy. plus on the edges it absorbs in more so you can tell where the joints are. plus over the glue the glue is more shiny.

i used spray paint on my first couple of boxes and it can be done if your very carful and do multiple coats.

i use house paint now it works much better. put it on with a roller its easy

Yea spray paint doesn't work too good. Regular paint works alright though.

yea this box is just one to get me by till I get my new car and I didn't want to spend the money to carpet the box when I'm not gonna use it ltater on, and I didn't want just a plain ol' wooden box sittin back there either.

There is a type of primer available now that is good for this because of how bad it soaks in the wood. If you cover the box in a layer of resin first that can work- it just takes some sanding to actually get it smooth.

There is a 'fleckstone' coating that is really nice and is more like undercoating or bedliner than paint, but still offers a nice custom appearance.

its all in the prep. Fill screw holes with bondo, fill seams with bondo. Sand, Prime 2 coats of water based primer (Kilz 2) sand after each coat, then 2-3 coats of paint, sanding each coat, finish with wet sanding and compound and buffing.

I noticed that HD now sells lacuer in a can as well. It may be easier then paint, as it cures longer allowing the paint to settle out more for a flat finish. But prep work is the key. It needs to be smooth before you apply paint.

Buy carpet. Its cheap and almost always looks better than spray painted. Plus its faster/easier

carpet is much easier. no need to use any wood filler or even sand the box. plsu you dont have to put on mutiple coats and you also dont have to wait for it to dry.

like Marc said if ur gonna paint - heck of ALOT of work ....carpeting is easier especially if u use a spray adhesive

vinyl sticker sheets can work but u need to still sand edges & fill holes or it will show through but if anything rubs against the box's edge the vinly will come loose

carpet hides any imperfections & easiest to do IMO .....

the last box i made was the first box i ever carpeted. all of my previous enclosures were painted, some spray painted and some with a roller. the spray give a very nice finish, its almost reflective if you do a good job the roller is easier adn requires lass coats but the finish is orange peeled. either way it is a lot of work to get your box to come out perfect with paint.

if i can get away with it i will never paint a box agian. another advangate of carpet over paint is its durability and how it sticks to the carpet in your trunk and dosnt slide around.
