i was at berny's all day making a mold for my door pod. i still need to put the ring on and wrap it with fleece to complete it. still got the sanding and stuff to do as well.

anyways here's what we did so far.

first the door

first we laid down some tape.

then we used a permanent marker to draw out the shape of the mold.

now we laid down the fiberglass mat.

its time to resin. i love the smell of resin. i could never get sick of it. lol.

here's berny mixing some resin up to apply another layer. we did 3 layers to get the toughness we wanted.
Upload

now to pop the mold out of the door panel.

test to see if it fits good. it does!!!!

finally we cut it along the lines that we drew up earlier and test fit it again. its a perfect fit.

now we cut the mdf rings and i will put it on a couple of dowels and wrap it with polyester fleece. i will have pics of that when finished. i should be done with it by the end of the week.

its all berny. i was just his helper.

chauncey between layers, we only let it dry for about 20-30 minutes. for it to dry completely, it took a couple of hours. the hot 80+ degrees helped i guess. lol.

p.rick i will soon enough. it will come out awesome.

after each layer, we cut up some fiberglass mat, mixed up the resin, and the layer that was on before the next layer was already hardened. So we kept adding to it. After the last layer, we let it sit for like 20 minutes and were able to pop it off the door. Then we let it sit for a hour and the mold stopped giving off heat and fumes. So it was pretty much dry. We used 8oz for each layer with 5cc of hardener. It was about a good 80degree's or so outside. We could of gotten to the wrapping stage if we started sooner. But oh well, we did enough.

you want me to wrap it with felt then resin it?

i was thinking of using something thin like grill cloth. that way i can get the shape i want and i can use body filler to toughen it up.

also on the video berny, the guy mixed body filler with resin and just poured it on at the end.

"also on the video berny, the guy mixed body filler with resin and just poured it on at the end."

yeah, they call it the milkshake. By doing this, the bodyfiller will smooth itself out, and we would barely have to sand, or not even sand at all.

Chad, you can use grill cloth, but you'll need to add a couple of layers of fiberglass mat, atleast 2 layers, then duraglass, sand the duraglass down, and then we can do the milkshake at the end. Chad, no doubt, if you come down this sunday again, we'll get it done to the point of bodyfiller. Just come down ;), I'll buy the food and drinks this time, don't trip. Plus, you left the duraglass at my house so you gotta come pick it up anyways lol.

ima put the ring on and then wrap it with fleece tonight. then ima resin the fleece to make it hard so it takes the shape. the mid will be in an enclosure so i am hoping it will sound tighter.

Try google maps. It seems to be the best that I've used. It's more updated than crappy Mapquest as well.
