I have money to spend and I need help with JL subs. They have a box, http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_enclosures.php?menu=6&prod_id=308, that puts out 1200 watts at 4 ohms. However, JL has no amp that puts out 1200watts at 4 ohms, they only have their 500/1 and 1000/1 amps that are underrated according to them. I always thought if you get an amp make sure it's rated higher than the subwoofers.

Constraint:
I lease a 2007 Jetta 2.5 with a stock alternator. What options do I have that will effectively push those subwoofers assuming no upgrades to anything under the hood. I want nice clean BASS !!!

A W6 and 500/1 are meant for each other.

That system "handles" 1200w, that doesn't mean it NEEDS 1200w. 1000w would be plenty.

That system and a 1000/1 would make a great SQ system. However if you want more output I'd do a 12W7 in a JL HO box and a 1000/1. That will just plain kick azz.

BTW, 1000w is about the most you can put on most stock alternators.

M.S., thanks for the tip. In your opinion since I already have a 500/1, can I bridge that amp with another 500/1 and run my box with two W6s? Or would you recommend I get the 1000/1 and run the subs off that?

Oh if you already have that system that you linked, you can run it on your 500/1. You'd get better performance if you sell that amp and buy a 1000/1 though.

The guys at cartoys told me the only way to run a 1000/1 is with an aftermarket alternator. Are they right or wrong? I always thought that if you buy a set of subwoofers you want to make sure your amplifier is rated equally as great or greater. Is that true?

a HO alt would help, but that JL will put the same power always so buy it first and see how it handles in your car

You probably won't need it. Plenty of people have run amps that size on stock alternators. Of crouse theres no rea lway to tell until you try it.

Oh, and don't ask people at cartoys for advice
