so i just got an spl rating for the first time. i got 142 on the front dash and 147 right next to the port.
i know there is a lot that i can do to get more db. i am ordering hushmat right now.

pretty much my goal is to get over 160 db.
(with 2 18s)

right now i have a one 18 fi BL, rockeford 1000/1 power amp. 8 cubft tuned to 37 Hz.

i am just looking for any tips or hints on this. cause i am still a noob. i have a few extra hundreds laying around.

160?
Not happening unless your doing port wars.

You could do 150 at the dash with 2 18s and a good amount of power but get ready for spending alot of cash on electrical upgrades and batteries. Whats your price range?

uhmmm

a 160 on a tl is very tough to do sealed up ...

but ur only doing a 42 with that setup seems alittle low to me

what type of box ..? id do sub up port up .. in that blazer ...

doing such a high number requires hours of testing and re testing ... very tough thing to do .. especially on a tl

Was the 142 on music or burp? What was the frequency it hit 142 at?

yes actually. it does. 142 sealed up seems reasonable, but still not full potential.

explain to us how u have ursetup...

box arrangement.... electrical upgrades.... voltage drop when u burped.... ASSUMing u burpt....

etc etc

try sub up and port back, you are going to have to know what your res. freq. is

160 will be hard. good luck man. i hope you get it.

if you want to shoot for such numbers, i would suggest you buy a tl mic and keep on working on it.

its 37Hz.

i was thinking sub up port back too. its 8 cubic feet and i was told not to go bigger than that because it would sound low and not be any louder. but wouldnt it make sense the bigger the box the more sound you would get out of it?

were can i get a tl mic?

termpro aka dbdrag.com and depends on the freq. of the car. i would say for spl try a 5cf box tuned at 40-45hz to start

Box or ride? Either way yes. The stiffer everything is the better for your number. They build those moving bank vaults for a reason.

I will disagree with everyone.

1 18 inch BL w/1000wrms on it and tuned to 37 hz gets a 142 and you guys think that sucks?

You must've expected that sub to walk on water or somethin i guess...

And go ahead and add that 2nd sub right NOW if that will be part of your final setup.

all im saying is ...

i have a alpha 15 and a sundown 1500d ... thats doing a 46

so he has more cone area which ideally makes the sub louder right ... cuz thats what everyone believes ...

bro we an 18 BL which absolutely hammer.... and a rockford 1000 which which will do about 13-1400 ... u can do more then a 42. . work on ur box man ...

ull get it eventually

well mike your number has a little something to do with the fact you have a hatchback... regardless he should be posting better than a 42.

My wifes 12 does 140 sealed up on 1krms from her trunk. You are missing out on a lot of potential. Just make several boxes, first off I'd try a sub up port back configuration. If you expect to play music on the 2 18s you won't see 160. 155ish would be a high but not unreachable goal. Good luck man, have fun with it.

^Don't think I'm implying you'll get there with 1krms either I'd shoot for 145 and work your way up as you go.

you really need a meter to go after your goal...id say spend the couple hundred on a termlab because even buying one of my dbm2 150 db meters your looking at like 200 plus I think...but either way you need a meter to see whats happening ...if you really want to learn how to get db's

Well neither have I, but I'm just saying. Most people haven't heard 145+....If you need to be hitting 150+ in your daily system then more power to you I guess.

Remember for every 3 db you need to double your power. And that is with perfect efficiency.

Think about it

i know how loud 160 is. i have heard a system get in the 170's with 32 10s. its was pretty sweet. i dont have the money to put something togather to get in the 160s right now cause i am in school.. working at walmart. haha.
does any one know what song i should try out? i tried 4 songs and the one that i didn't think would be that good was the one that got the 142. i am going to mess with it this week and take it there again and see if i can get something better that 142. i was really hoping for 150 on this one. the box is pretty good i thought. every one that has looked at it and listend to it has been impressed. doubled up MDF.

if any one knows how many Hz my car is let me know! cause i have no idea!

honestly you don't know what 160 sounds like. i doubt you sat inside a car while it was hitting 160. when i was at a comp the guys that were hitting 160+ stood outside with their hu in there hand.

yeah yes you have heard the car doing 160 but honestly a car doing 165 or even 170 sounds pretty much the same cause they got the car all sealed up and deaden real good. people don't go wow from hearing the bass but they go wow after seeing what it hit on the meter.

i think burping is awsome. just think what it would be like inside of a 180+ db car... i am sure it would kill a person or at least mess them up real good. ha
the one i heard that was 170+ was pretty sick. i just stuck my head in the window for a few sec. hehehe

You did not hear a car that was playing 170dB.

You would probably cry if you heard high 150s.

If you dont know what your talking about dont say anything.

well like ive said before Ive sat in a vehicle that hit 152 on the dash sealed up...it was a van and I was near the speakers so im sure it was a good bit louder and ill never do that again...I got a headache and felt sick in my stomach...they played the high voltage bass cd when i was in it so im not sure what it scored then but watching the windshield flex in and out was pretty cool...I think they said they went through three windshields in it....and the outside was impressive too the wall of the van flexed in and out majorly....but with a bunch of 12's or 15's and 5000 watts of orion power what do you expect haha
