For a pair of MAW 12s. There are 2 enclosures that will stack on top of each other; one sub in each. The point of separate boxes is that it's a wall until I take the hardtop off and then one enclosure out. Then one of them sits at the height of the rear seat and gate.

Today I cut the hole for an access panel and glued some port panels along with the front panel.

These two were from this morning. Note the genius us of a marking gauge. It held the panel up while I nailed it from the bottom.

These are from this afternoon.

The big square cut-out is for an access panel. I'll route it a half inch and then cut a piece to 14.5x14.5 and route part of that to 14x14 to fit in there. Then it's just caulking and t-nuts to hold it in. After that, I think I'll get some bolts and make up some terminals. I should have this box completed tomorrow. Then it's on to the next one.

Haha. Thanks a lot. It is a little more complicated than the few ported boxes I've built. I'm doing a much better job on this though. I will never use a skill saw and a guide again. Even if I can use the radial arm once it's in smaller pieces, the table saw owns both methods. I think I'll bring my EHQS 12 to school sometime so that I can give it a little test run with the home audio amp I brought in a while ago. People keep asking me if they can hear it when it's done. Just gotta check the cut-out diameters for the Mach 5 and the eD. Hopefully they're really close.

Haha.

Paul: Thanks, Paul. I am doing my very best to be careful. I did find that it is easier to cut straight lines with the jigsaw if you go a little quicker though.

Sean: Thanks very much to you too, man. I'll let you know how it compares to my ported enclosure.

So the EHQS and the MAW differ in the mounting screw circle diameter if that made sense. The screw holes for mounting the subs are a greater distance apart on the MAW if you went right through the middle.

Thank you.

They will be 38" stacked. Won't be able to fit a finger above them. To hold them: I'm building a hardtop so I'll build in some sort retainer. It will probably have a piece that goes along the top and will pin the top box back to the rear wall of the vehicle. Then I'll just put something down the each side and probably screw it to the bottom one in a way that is easy to remove and won't put holes that will allow air to escape when I have the top enclosure off. I've done more than a little bit of thinking about this. Threaded rod with those extensions attached somehow is another option.

Today's Update:

I started by... *MDF dust hinders your thinking abilities*
Hmm. Well, I'll start with what I remember.
I think I did some other crap before this but:
I glued the final panel on the first enclosure only to realize that I had glued a 45 in the sealed chamber. DOH! Luckily I wasn't too slow on the uptake and I popped it off and got out the chisel and mallet and maimed that 45. Got it popped out and glued the top on. Came back to do some more work after school and realized that I had forgotten a 45 in the final bend of the port. Popped that in and added some glue where it looked like it could use a bit. We had future grade 9s coming in during their orientation and my shop teacher hates people building enclosures but he likes me so I got the privilege but the people guiding the orientation kept saying that you could build enclosures. So then they all left and I started the next box. Got the ends glued to the back and then I cut the front panel's 14x14 access hole and the mounting hole for the sub. After that I cleaned all the sh!t up and took some pictures.

My shop teacher's going to pick up a spare rear seat for me because I'm going to have to take the sabre saw to the current one to prevent the port mouth from being covered. $20; not too bad.

Yeah; he's f.ckin' dope. He's always talking about weed too. Throw some speakers in his van for him: "Sometime we'll hotknife on the stove"(stove in the van). People building little jewelery boxes in woodwork: they're stash boxes. I go to Mayne Island: to smoke weed with hippies. He's a funny dude.

If I was going to have a spare I'd TA for him in a second. Unfortunately I don't have enough time for all the classes I wanna take.

Thanks.

So...
I hooked one of them up! WOW!!!! Just one was almost as loud as both and MUCH LOUDER on the low-lows. CRAZY! Well worth the $50. The low note on Holla @ Cha Boy is now door flexing bass instead of just door flexing unloading noises. I freakin' love it.

If you're going to build your own box, definitely invest in one of Pete's Designs. Well worth the money.

The bad and some good:
I f.cked up one of the enclosures like I had thought. Lots of turbulence. Today I started to build a replacement for it though. I got the baffle, the bottom, the back, and a port wall in. Should be done by Thursday at the latest and I'll have at least 3 days on Mayne during the weekend, with which I'll build a hardtop and see how loud it really is.

Oh yeah, I ended up saying F the t-nuts because I was having lots of trouble with the prongs bending and not having a router bit that would cut a big enough flange. I'm just going to glue a panel in there after I install some bolts for terminals.

Now, most of my weekend was dedicated to my electrical system. I didn't actually chill for more than 2 hours. 9:30 AM-1:00 AM on Saturday and about 10:00 AM-10:30 PM on Sunday.

EA alternator:

BTW, I had to bump up the idle to get this thing to charge properly at idle. Gonna shoot Nate an email because I don't like driving with it this high. It feels strange. I know his reputation but for $225 shipped to Canada, I couldn't pass it up.

Big-a$s battery box:

^Those are the vents for the battery box.
Still need another fuse at the other end of the run back to the battery.

A few more pictures:

You can see how I couldn't get enough space for the t-nuts. Stripped a machine screw so I had to use the hacksaw for cutting a slot in it.

If you're gonna build a box, get a design from Pete!

Pete Kulicki designed 'em for me. It was more than worth the $50 he charges. Until I gather a LOT (LOT LOT LOT) more knowledge of acoustics, I won't build a box without his blueprints. Gotta ask Reece if he's gotten his plans yet.

I'm glad too. Would have been a b!tch if I hadn't. I was also thinking about how I have no idea what the Earthquake puts out at 8 ohms. One would assume 450W but it does 3kW at 2 ohms, 5kW at 1 ohm, and 900W at 4 ohms so I could have only been driving the sub with 150W. In which case I can expect close to a 10dB gain with the 2 enclosures plus there's the hardtop which will really boost the efficiency.

Hmmmmmm

Vids this weekend. I promise.

Oh there will be lots of pictures. I'm planning on just using plywood and then covering it with sheet metal. I can easily get it to fit properly and it will do the job. I could fiberglass it but... I don't have the time or the drive. This hardtop is going to be 100% function oriented.
