Would it be fairly easy to use two plate amps to power one DVC subwoofer for in-home?

Reason I'm asking is because I wanna get a Mach5 MAW-15, it has a 500w rms and Mach5 also sells a 300watt plate amplifier. I wanna get two and just wire one to each coil to give it 600w.

I wouldn't. You'd have to match the gains perfectly. Cheaper to get a 500w Bash amp and wire the coils properly. 500w in a home is plenty.

That's where the problem lies, I haven't found anyone in canada that sells bash amplifiers for anywhere near the same price.

Would an oscilloscope be the most accurate way to set the gains? Or just a DMM?

try partsexpress. they have some real reasonably priced plate amps

honestly, for the sake of simplicity a dmm will work just fine

As Paul said, "You'd have to match the gains perfectly." Last time I checked a DMM wasn't that accurate.

I don't like buying from the US because often it comes with very high shipping rates and an extra $100 brokerage fee.

"Last time I checked a DMM wasn't that accurate."

DMM's are off by 1% at MOST, and its usually cheaper ones. multiple readings from one will give an almost definite result. you will probably end up with around a <0.3% difference, and it will not matter. yes, an oscilloscope would be better, no sh!t, but go ahead and try to turn a gain knob 0.3%

i still believe 1 500w amp is the most logical choice for this anyways.

Ouch. I wish I knew of some Canadian based electronic suppliers but I don't. If it's worth it have someone you trust here buy it for you and ship it. Might be cheaper than the $100 fee.

And the Bash is a great amp. I had this exact model powering 4 10's and it worked very well.

Yeah it would probably be cheaper that way, just a matter of finding someone.

Paul do you have any experience with sealed subwoofers in your house?

I've only built ported. I like the efficiency/output. If sealed is your thing run with it. It's good for SQ. I wanted more thump out of my sub. I let the rest of my surround take care of the rest.

^^^Good find. Would that work for you Skiez?

Okay im gonna try sealed... would poly fill be a good idea for a Mach5 MJ-18?

I want that IXL-18.4 but don't think 550w would cut it. lol

Recommended enclosure size is 2.8 cu.ft. for sealed, probably do that with some poly fill..

Thanks cam, huge help...

That's a good price for an 18".

If you ask me adding poly in any HT sub would help. Most HT sub manufacturers do in their enclosures.

No problem. I think you'd be fine with 550W on the IXL.
