I am going to be getting a new HU real soon. I have been debating between these two HU's:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9008_Pioneer+Premier+DEH-P690UB.html#

or

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_10750_Alpine+CDA-9886.html

Now consider this:
-I can get either HU for about the same price(alpine just a little bit more than the 690 on ebay)
-With the alpine you dont get as much control until you get the imprint add on thing.
-The premier comes with a 2 year warrenty and the alpine only comes with a 1 year.

Which one would work the best, have the most control over the entire system, have better SQ, and be the most ipod friendly.

I really dont wanna see "alpine > premier" or "premier > alpine" If you think that way please explain why and give some reasons. Thanks.

I just ordered the 9886 off ebay the other day, $235 shipped. Both are great decks, but I'd say it's more of a personal preference.
Both have 4v preouts, xovers, sub controls, the Pioneer has a 7 band eq, alpine only 5 until you add imprint(seen kits on ebay for less than $150 shipped, and if you happen to not run an amp to your highs, imprint ups the internal amp to 45x4 rms)

Josh, you got ripped off sorry to say....

My cousin just bought one brandnew from a store and cost him like 175 after taxes....

You should shop around next time before commiting to anything to make sure you get the best deal :-(

The major difference between those 2 units is not features but quality........ Alpine all the way.

Just now read that you wanted reasons...... well it's pretty simple, the quality of alpine HUs far exceeds pioneer...... you still find alpines from the 90s often being used, and you don't see them having issues as a result of bad designs. Same can't be said for pioneer.

I dont feel I got ripped off, it's a deal either way. I saved $115 off of retail, that's not so bad, when they sell online for around $250-300 plus shipping.

Hmmmm... well now i found out that if i get the alpine on ebay it will only come with a 90 day warrenty. If i get the premier i get a 2 year warrenty. I could get the alpine with a one year warrenty if i bought it from an authorized site but thats more than i want to spend.

Well maybe if you don't take care of your stuff. I do so warranty is not a factor for me when buying equipment.
