Hey guys, I'm sure you have read in other threads that I traded my Infinity Kappas for two type R Alpines in a 4cuft. Ported at 32z with a ST1000D Memphis.

Anyways.....I am wanting to beef up the power. So I am going to buy a Optima Yellowtop battery for this car and what else do I need to do in order to do this right. An isolator etc...

why would you put a memphis st1000 in your car and remove the 1000/1, that's just dumb

An isolator would be a good idea. I'd install the alternator, then decide whether a second battery is necessary.

Nope...I took out a 1,600 Hifonics amp for the Memphis..My 1000/1 is in my Lexus. Although I like Memphis amps about the same.

Woah hold it.............

First of all don't get get an optima battery. They are far from ideal for car audio. Red top is better than yellow top if you really have to get one, but don't. Kinetik and Odyssey are good for car audio applications as far as batteries go.

Second, HO alternator is what you need to improve the electrical system. Battery makes very little difference in comparison.

Do that and tell us how much difference it makes. Or I could tell you right now, almost none.

But, I will try the Kinetik or Odyssey after I research them because I have never heard of them and I have been in to cars for awhile. Optima has pretty much proven themselves to me and about millions of other people.

I also found a 1 farad cap (RF) in my old closet from when I worked at Besy Buy like 2 years ago. I never even used it I think. I heard that caps actually suck tho and they sort of take a little juice from the amp. Is that true. Those Kinetic batteries and Stinger batteries are too expensive.

Yep no cap.

" Those Kinetic batteries and Stinger batteries are too expensive. "

Hahaha that's b/c they're better...... they discharge power quickly, exactly what you want for car audio purposes.

Seriously though if money is an issue why are you even putting so much effort into batteries. Alternator is the power source, HO alt is by far the most effective upgrade.

hey M.S. I was browsing DB's site, and the HO alt they have for my truck is only 95amps at idle...that's not enough for 1800wrms, right?

If that's the most you can get, then it has to be enough doesn't it? You wouldn't be able to blast it at idle with that, no.

Almost all alternators are inadequate at idle BTW, just the way it is. Chances are if thats the biggest one they have, you won't find a much bigger one anywhere else. Beware of companies that don't even tell you idle amperage, or what RPMs they're ratings are at. Some of them use an un-realistic 2000+ RPM............

Yeah, I had the Toy camry for a long time and just gave it to my fionce. I like it so much, I just got the last year lexus made the ES300 that looks like the camry. So yeah, its just a nice camry. I'm thinking about selling it though to get an 2004 Tahoe though, mabye.

Money is no issue, trust me. Its a battery. I just like the Optima batteries. A red top and a new alt. will be plently enough for a 1000 watt amp.

BTW is that a GM truck? If so beware of so-called "bolt on, large case" alternators. They are a CS144 case and are NOT a direct bolt on for a CS130/CS130D alt. The rear beaket does not line up, and you need a new belt.

Really? Thank's man, I had no idea. I like them because they are big and comfy. I dunno though, I don't want to mess with car payments again..Things are sounding good now too.

it's a 2001 S-10 Blazer 4.3L

it said, on DB's site, 200amp alt, 95 amps at idle.

so you are saying that would be sufficient for 1500-1800wrms and maybe a lil more?

The question of "whats sufficient" usually goes out the window when looking for an HO alt and instead becomes "whats available".

200 amp is about the biggest you can get for that vehicle. It should do good for that amount of power.

I've got a 3000w amp on my 200 amp alt. Is that ideal? No. But it's the best I can do without spending an insane amount on a custom alternator setup.

well could I "get away" with 1500-1800wrms on a stock 100amp alternator?

Nope. You're looking at big voltage drops if you do that. Especially at idle where that alts only doing ~60 amp.

and what if I'm not one to "blast" my music often?
still same problem?

if so, maybe I'll just keep this amp out of the truck until I can get rid of it and put it in the F150
