New member Username: WaresgaragestereoFort Valley, GA United States Post Number: 6 Registered: Jan-08 | it really depends on the watts. i run a 2000 watt on 5 Ga wire and it does good. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 5448 Registered: Jul-06 | ^^^^^^ no your not, or you would have blown the in-line fuse a long time ago. Whatever amp this is obviously doesn't do 2000w. Unless your in the category of idiots that didn't even put a fuse on the power wire........ Chris: For a 2000w amp you need 2 gauge at least. But IMO get 0 gauge and do it right the first time. |

Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1491 Registered: Sep-07 | its a 1500 watt amp not a 200 watt amp |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 5455 Registered: Jul-06 | Oops I was thinking MD-3D. 4 gauge would be cutting it close for 1500w, I would want bigger wire. |
Gold Member Username: 420alldaylongPost Number: 3182 Registered: Sep-06 | I always use the biggest gauge that will fit the amp. |
Platinum Member Username: Rovin4 10 Pioneer... Post Number: 12807 Registered: Jul-05 | like said above get 0g & save $ in the long run ... |
Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1492 Registered: Sep-07 | joey i believe its biggest wire w.o triming is 4 gauge for that amp.it might be 2 gauge tho not for sure,i will find out when i get the amp.my rf amp has the same fuse ratings.and it only takes 4 gauge w.o triming, thats what i got on it.ive never had a single problem out of it either.i may get 1/0 gauge tho.just incase i hook up a amp for some components |
Silver Member Username: KklaggeSan Diego Post Number: 524 Registered: Dec-04 | Go with 0 gauge from the battery (put a 300amp fuse on it near the battery)... Run the 0 gauge to a "fused" distribution block (that has 0 gauge in and (2) 4 gauge out)... Put (2) 120amp fuses in the distribution block... Run as short a run as possible of 4 gauge from the distribution block to your amps... Problem solved |
Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1497 Registered: Sep-07 | i already know how to wire up 2 amps |
Gold Member Username: JtownTeam Revolution, Texas Post Number: 1713 Registered: Mar-07 | speaking of, not trying to thread jack, but would 4ga cut it for the RE35.1? if not, 2 ga? |
Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1501 Registered: Sep-07 | just depends on lenght of the wire if its not more than 19 ft it will work |
Silver Member Username: Pbplayer05Carroll, Iowa Post Number: 243 Registered: May-07 | well i have an md2d will it work on 4gauge its like 18 ft long |
Silver Member Username: KklaggeSan Diego Post Number: 528 Registered: Dec-04 | If you already know how to wire up the amps then why post this thread? You just trying to run a poll or something? Best thing to do with that amp (especially if you're going to add another amp later) is wire it up with 0 gauge (if the amp won't take any bigger than 4 guage the run a distribution block)...much more convenient to run only one power wire all the way from your battery...IMO |
Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1502 Registered: Sep-07 | i never said i was gonna wire 2 amps up or never even asked about how to wire up a amp.i was asking about wire size |
Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1503 Registered: Sep-07 | ya it will.i found a wire gauge size chart that tells u what to use on crutchfield |
Gold Member Username: JtownTeam Revolution, Texas Post Number: 1732 Registered: Mar-07 | link to that site bro? and that RE is 1 ohm stable, right? |

Gold Member Username: camBC Canada Post Number: 1673 Registered: Nov-06 | Hold up. 5 AWG? Pretty damn sure that doesn't exist. Until you get to 1 AWG, it's only even, I believe. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 5556 Registered: Jul-06 | It exists. Just not commonly used for car audio. |
Silver Member Username: KklaggeSan Diego Post Number: 529 Registered: Dec-04 | If the amp only supports 4 gauge then go with that...kind of a waste of money to run 0 gauge and then "trim" it so it slips into a 4 gauge hole...just my $.02 anyway. You did mention something about possibly wiring up a component amp...was just trying to help out is all...I would've already been done doing this...when in doubt wire it big for future expansion. |

Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1508 Registered: Sep-07 | yea i got some of the wire, its actaually decent, the wire i got aint all insulation either |
Bronze Member Username: WaresgaragestereoFort Valley, GA United States Post Number: 22 Registered: Jan-08 | Yeah, that 5Ga wire works quite well. For 33.00$$$ for the whole kit, i don't think it was half bad. |
Gold Member Username: Nd4spd18Northwest PA Post Number: 5565 Registered: Jul-06 | Thats not a very good chart it only goes up to 2 gauge. Heres a better one http://www.bcae1.com/wire.htm About scosche wire, they seem to lie about the gauge, their "5 gauge" = actual 6 gauge, their "4 gauge" = actual 5 gauge, etc. |
Silver Member Username: SomedonniedudeIllinois United States Post Number: 744 Registered: May-07 | The scosche wiring sucks horribly imo. The rca's are crap, and the pwr/grnd wires are not flexible at all and has few strands. The strands are so thick and hard they will stab your fingers. And they are a guage smaller than what they claim like m.s. said. |

Gold Member Username: Big_edge_headMilwaukee, Wisconsin USA Post Number: 1163 Registered: Mar-07 | has what stuff? the scosche? That wire is not too bad. It gets the job done. |
Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1523 Registered: Sep-07 | ya its pretty decent wire.its running a t5001db |
Gold Member Username: Big_edge_headMilwaukee, Wisconsin USA Post Number: 1165 Registered: Mar-07 | oh well thats fine then. i used to run it with my rockford p6002. |
Gold Member Username: Big_edge_headMilwaukee, Wisconsin USA Post Number: 1166 Registered: Mar-07 | but still i think people should just put in 1/0 gauge to begin with. get it out of the way early. if you install small wire you will probobly be putting in bigger stuff some day |
Gold Member Username: CblazeRock island, Tenesssee Us Post Number: 1528 Registered: Sep-07 | ya but im sticking with a system that a stock alt can handle |
