it really depends on the watts. i run a 2000 watt on 5 Ga wire and it does good.

^^^^^^ no your not, or you would have blown the in-line fuse a long time ago. Whatever amp this is obviously doesn't do 2000w. Unless your in the category of idiots that didn't even put a fuse on the power wire........

Chris:
For a 2000w amp you need 2 gauge at least. But IMO get 0 gauge and do it right the first time.

Save yourself money in the long run and get yourself 0 gauge the first time like M.S. said .

Oops I was thinking MD-3D. 4 gauge would be cutting it close for 1500w, I would want bigger wire.

I always use the biggest gauge that will fit the amp.

joey i believe its biggest wire w.o triming is 4 gauge for that amp.it might be 2 gauge tho not for sure,i will find out when i get the amp.my rf amp has the same fuse ratings.and it only takes 4 gauge w.o triming, thats what i got on it.ive never had a single problem out of it either.i may get 1/0 gauge tho.just incase i hook up a amp for some components

Go with 0 gauge from the battery (put a 300amp fuse on it near the battery)...

Run the 0 gauge to a "fused" distribution block (that has 0 gauge in and (2) 4 gauge out)...

Put (2) 120amp fuses in the distribution block...

Run as short a run as possible of 4 gauge from the distribution block to your amps...

Problem solved

If you already know how to wire up the amps then why post this thread?

You just trying to run a poll or something?

Best thing to do with that amp (especially if you're going to add another amp later) is wire it up with 0 gauge (if the amp won't take any bigger than 4 guage the run a distribution block)...much more convenient to run only one power wire all the way from your battery...IMO

Hold up. 5 AWG? Pretty damn sure that doesn't exist. Until you get to 1 AWG, it's only even, I believe.

It exists. Just not commonly used for car audio.

If the amp only supports 4 gauge then go with that...kind of a waste of money to run 0 gauge and then "trim" it so it slips into a 4 gauge hole...just my $.02 anyway.

You did mention something about possibly wiring up a component amp...was just trying to help out is all...I would've already been done doing this...when in doubt wire it big for future expansion.

Yeah, that 5Ga wire works quite well. For 33.00$$$ for the whole kit, i don't think it was half bad.

Thats not a very good chart it only goes up to 2 gauge. Heres a better one

http://www.bcae1.com/wire.htm

About scosche wire, they seem to lie about the gauge, their "5 gauge" = actual 6 gauge, their "4 gauge" = actual 5 gauge, etc.

The scosche wiring sucks horribly imo. The rca's are crap, and the pwr/grnd wires are not flexible at all and has few strands. The strands are so thick and hard they will stab your fingers. And they are a guage smaller than what they claim like m.s. said.

but still i think people should just put in 1/0 gauge to begin with. get it out of the way early. if you install small wire you will probobly be putting in bigger stuff some day
