is there a rule of thumb or number of square inches on a panel that determines when you need bracing or double panelling?the biggest is my back panel at 12.5x22.5 i havent braced it,does it need it?or just double it.

12.5x22.5 is a pretty big piece not to brace. you should just put a brace on it. how much power and what kinda sub is this box for?

ya chad i thought so.i'll put a brace from front to back and maybe from that brace over to the side.its for a 07 p3 on 600 watts.actually thats 1/2 the enclosure other half is same so 2 12s on 1215 watts.

i assume they are in separated chambers. brace should be fine. no need to double baffle it. it will just make the box heavier.

Depending on how the subs are positioned on the baffle, you may not even have to brace it.

For instance, this box really has no major need for bracing. Unless you are using a very high powered sub.

That box is 2.25cuft tuned to ~36hz.
It is the common 12" ported box I build at the shop. The port wall acts as a brace.

In many vehicles, loading the port toward a wall or back hatch is great.
That box works great in an SUVs, small trunks, and even small trucks.
It is a VERY versitile box.

Also, a box like that allows you to build the port w/ no L-bends. That helps w/ air-flow.

if that is the case, then canaan is right. since you have a port in each chamber, that will act as a brace itself.

Hey heres a quick question as I was thinking about bracing as well.

My box is a slot port with the slot right down the middle and the subs on either side. I am going to double up on the baffle, should I worry about bracing? Box is (after subs and port) 4.1cu feet.

The box will look like the pic below, awesome I know, lol.

|_____|_|_____|

The subs will be seeing 3krms each....

Don't mean to jack a thread but no point on starting a new one!

its always beneficially if u can brace somewhere but sometimes situations just make it difficult to do so

i have done similar box like that with no bracing since the port walls r like braces & it worked fine...

To the OP: Something to remember: Bracing a panel will make it far stronger than doubling that panel would have.

That's what I was thinking Rovin as the ports go back 20.75" and the total box size is 25" deep, so thats some good bracing right there.

mike thats what my box looks like.ports go back and "L" off 10 more " to either side.its that lonely back panel i was worried about.i got a divider inbetwen the ports also,so that helps but i still had 23 or so inches along the back of each side so i ran 1 small piece of mdf from the front panel just behinde the outside edge of each sub to the back panel, should be good now.

My sub box is 31" wide so I think I will need something along the back of that...maybe just run something across the middle along the back side inside the box.......

Looks nice!

I just have to figure out where I am going to run my speaker wire for my subs, dual 2ohm and I'm going for a .5ohm load.

My box practically takes up my entire trunk and I'm not sure if I am going to put bolts on one side or the other. Can't put them on the top as there it about 1" of space or less above my box to the top of the trunk. Maybe I'll just do the very back of the box in the middle.....;

Maybe just run the wires through the port, lol, would that change anything in the tuning??
