The only meter that will give you accurate readings at SPL that high is the TermLab. A used one will cost a few hundred dollars.

The TL is the meter by which all others are judged, none of the cheaper meters are accurate. There was a company called splmeter.com that used to sell meters that were accurate within .5 db of the TL, for about $150 if I remember correctly, but they are out of business. Sucks, I wanted to get one of those

honestly i doubt im anywhere near that but no point in buying one smaller when my goal is to hit 150 dbs. right now i have a fully loaded 18 btl running off a kx 2500.1 in an extended cab ranger. ive never heard a system metered to even begin to give a guess at what im at so i want to know.

damn patrick that system rocks in that ranger. nice.

good luck.

rather than trying to find a cheap spl meter, find a shop that might have a termlab. like MS said, you won't get accurate readings with anything else.

maybe you can find a db drag event near you and enter. what city and state are you in?

Patrick,

The TL is kinda the industry standard. So really nothing else can compete regardless wether they are better meters or not. Kinda like Windows is the standard in computing even though Mac's and Linux are technically better systems.

Damn, thats CHEAP for a TL....... I see used ones go for more than that on caraudio.com classifieds.

AC mic = not credible...... all you have to do is turn the sensitivity knob to throw off the reading.....

$200 but its three in one.... SPL meter (160 SPL capable), Volt meter, and Bass restoration (aka Epicenter) all in one unit... Well worth the money.. JMO

Very true M.S. but the AC EPIC-160 cannot be tampered with... Gives accurate SPL just not to the tenths or first decimal place... For example 151.3 on the TL will show up as just 151 on the EPIC-160. The TL is just more precise giving the extra decimal place, in turn being that much more accurate/precise than the EPIC-160, and has a higher SPL capability....But the price tag for that extra decimal place, and SPL capability, is pretty hefty.... JMO
