If I have 2 4-ohm subs wired in a series to get 4 ohms and I have a amp that puts 500rms x 1 at 4-ohms does that mean I'm getting 250rms to each sub.

Thanks for the help just a newbie

If both subs are 4 ohms and you wire them in series, the total will be 8 ohms. If you feed this 8 ohms with 500W * 4 ohms, you'll get something like 250 * 8 ohms for both subs that in fact will work as a single unit of 8 ohms

Wire them in series parallel and you will have a 4ohm load. Then it will be 250 watts to each.

You can't wire two 4 ohm SVC subs in series parallel. You can only get a 2 or 8 ohm load. Get a mono amp that puts out 500W at a 2 ohm load.
