sorry if this might sound noobish but, i hooked up my pioneer headunit deh-p780mp and it had black grounding wire but i didnt ground it, instead i connected it to my car's black wire on the opposite side of the wiring harness(so now the black wire is from my headunit is connected to black wire on the wiring harness....how come it still works fine? even though i didnt ground it. i had it like this for 6 months now...

If I read your explanation right...
That black wire on your car's wiring harness was most likely your car's factory ground. So you did it right.

lol ooo ok, i was just wondering...thanks, and another thing i just bought the Ipod adapter CDIB100ii, installed it today very easy and works great is it ok if i splice the yellow(battery) wire for it into the headunit battery wire and i also did the same for the black grounding wire.

Yes it is ok if you followed the correct procedure splicing it and the connections are secure.
