It's not a college but there are schools where you can learn how to do installs and all things car audio/video related(Mobile Entertainment).

Not necessary to pay for. Internet will teach you the basics, and experience will teach you the rest.

It's called Electronics/Electrical Engineering. Without that, you won't understand how things work and operate. They usually go for 2-4 years.
If all you want to do is be some beeatch's whipping boy, then skip it, if you want to be a leader/boss, then take the course.

You can take an installer course in about 6 months (of solid school). W/out it you are missing alot, and while you can learn online, job-wise unless you're opening you're own shop you have less of a change at managerial positions. If you are opening your own shop that you definitely would want to get certification.

you can also get MECP certified. Basic installer, advanced installer, and master installer levels are availible. And it gives you something to show your customers if your planning to start an install business.

College degree in Electronics, coupled with MECP certification and some experience installing on your car, should be enough. The problem might be knowing how to take off door grills on some cars. They're not that easy nor logical without a manual.

I would say show them your install work. If you don't have a degree that's about it, show them how good your work is. Show them you have knowlege would be a greater way.

....I got a job by bringing one of my boxes into a shop and asking for carpet. (At 14 years old!) While getting paid, I was taught a good deal about working with all sorts of cars, and the most economical ways to go about things.

^This is what I mean by experience

Now that I know a bit about installing, and the runs of this business, I could learn some about business management and start my own shop..

If you plan on taking some chicken sh!t's job because there are no openings, you better know about installing audio equipment. More importantly to the employer is that you know about installing alarms, keyless entry, and all that good stuff. If you have no idea, you may be able to find something on the internet. If not, a shop should let you come in and see how its done (they let me).

At your average place, someone would usually get paid 50% labor charge, ~$7-12 and hour, or a combination of both.

Good for a highschool kid like me? sure is

Good for a 40 year old man with a mortgage? hell no
