I am a musician, and somewhat of an audiophile. SQ is priority, but it's nice to be able to pound depending on my mood. Problem is I know absolutely nothing about installing, or matching an amp to speakers, which is why I am here. I have been doing some reading though, and this is what I've come up with so far:

Pioneer Premier 880PRS head unit (for active capability)

Morel Supremo 6 2-way comps run active (they come with no crossovers)
Zapco DC1000.4 4x150w @ 4 ohm running 1 channel for each comp.

Seas excel w18nx 7" midbass drivers
Amp for midbass - any suggestions?

Morel Ultimo 12" sub
mounted infinite baffle in dash or rear deck
Amp for sub - any suggestions?

I chose the Zapco over Tru Technology and Audison for budget reasons. And the HU because it seemed to be the only pioneer HU with an active crossover. Anything better and I'm going to be paying double or triple price.

Does anyone know the difference between the zapco DC1000.4 and the REF1000.4? From what I have read, you want the DC for an active setup, but I don't know why, and it is more expensive. Or, should I get two amps with two channels each at 200 watts to match the Morel's RMS power rating to give them their full justice? If so, what amps should I get?

If you really want to go active and want the best information you can get. I recommend going to this forum instead.

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/index.php?

The guys over there are very familiar with morel, seas, etc.

As for the difference between the DC and REF series, from what I read. The DC series you can set the settings using a pc for accurate settings. The REF series uses knobs. For the true audiophile, I would go with the DC series. Its all about how you prefer to set your settings.

Good thread. Haven't had a thread like this in months :-).

i dont know if you want matching amps or not but the dls a6 should pair nice with that ultimo depending on the coil config.

I have a little hyundai elantra, so not a whole lot of breathing room for speakers. May have to make some by modifying.

you can send an email to JMLAUDIO@HOTMAIL.COM about any questions on zapco.

his hame is josh and he runs a local shop by my house in st louis. they do some crazy sq work and only use zapco amps. hes worked with all of those brands you mentioned above so he should be able to point you in the right direction.

jmlaudio.com is his website.

changing the setup a little, going with just the supremo tweets and the seas w18nx in a 2-way active setup. the morel 6.5 will probably be too much like the seas anyway. seas w18nx has just as good a reputation for midbass clarity and output, if not better, despite the rated power difference, and it's about $1200 cheaper!

for now I will only be picking up the mids and highs, my pocket is not ready for a sub and an extra amp, besides the ultimos are quite unavailable to the united states.

so here's what I will have at least for the time being

Pioneer 880PRS - $320 - woofersetc
Morel supremo piccolo - $400 - woofersetc
Seas w18nx - $350 - timbre or madisound

Amp, still undecided, leaning toward Zapco

Holy cow! loving that! Great find Mike. Just might be a winner, even if it does take two amps to get them full power, in my mind Audison is hard to beat, and with the discounted price they're affordable too!

If you go audison i would look into the LRx 5.1MT.

5x100 at 4ohm
and 1x800 at 2ohm for a subby.

not sure on the price but i could ask my dealer tomorrow if you would like. my guess would be between 1700-2000...i hope not more.

That sounds sweet too. With an amp like that I have an extra channel to afford a pair of midranges too, plus one amp for everything.
