twice removed is not about cousins! but the relationship between them, like so;

It means this:

You have a second cousin, your father and her mother are cousins, and her mother is married... So your second cousin is once removed... because there is a maternal link in the otherwise paternal lineage that links you and your second cousins common ancestor...

So, anytime there is a female in the ancestry lines between you and the common ancestor, with yours being all males between you and the common ancestor, compared to your distant cousin,
and everytime youre cousin has a female in the ancestry line to the common ancestor, each female is 'once removed "by marriage"'.

So if you have a cousin that is twice removed, thta means you both share a common ancestor, but that your distant cousin has 2 females in the geneology line that you dont have, as you trace it to the common ancestor... the 2 females are the twice removed...

5th cousins are 5th cousins and if the both 5th cousins have a common ancestor AND there are no females in either lines of ancestry, there is nothing removed, so they are just 5th cousins.

Gots me 5 plates full of leftovers for the next couple days.

Jesus. Either you have Thanksgiving on a different date in the US, or I missed it. I need to check.
