upgrading from 2 x 12"s sony pos's. I wanna hit the lows so I'm looking into getting a pair of 15's, I'm just not sure what. Also, I've wanted some solo baric's for a while, are they worth the price?
Any suggestions would be great.

I have an amp, I may need something with more power, and I know im gonna catch some sh!t for this one, it's the sony xg... something 1000w max, i think it's 160 rms per channel, 2 channels.
As far as spl / sql, i need to do some reading on exactly what those mean.(newb here)
prefer 2 subs, an odd number of subs just sounds funny to me.
budget: good question, i was thinking 150 - 300 for the subs, If i do need an amp prolly something close to $200 to make sure that I dont buy crap, I don't plan on taking this comp or anything.

If your amp really only does 160rms its going to be hard to push a 15 that requires 750RMS I believe. Do you have spec of that amp? That will help out.
SQ sound quality
SPL loud

Taking a closer look those kicker cvr 15's i notice they are dual coil, I dont think the amp I have will be able to feed those sufficient power. The amp I have is the XM-2165GTX puts out 165w rms x 2 @ 4 ohms.

I definately want sound quality. Am I right in assuming that a ported box is better for sql and a sealed box is better for spl?

just starting out in car audio,i would recommend getting 1 solo baric 12 or 15 dual 2 ohm and a hifonics amp, brutus 606 or 1200,that way youll be loud and proud for a while without an electrical upgrade or breaking the bank.I always wanted a solo too. so i finally got a 10 in L5(get the L5 not L7 theyre cheaper)and it was very loud, peeps couldnt beleive it was only 1 10.I was happy with it for about a year with no probs.then i got on here and learned about SQ.sound quality wich the solo dosent have any.Get 1 and tune it low.youll love it for a while then youll come around to audioque or fi ssd for loudness and quality.goto hifi sound connection .com and get a refurb L5,they run them from time to time, about 125$.get a hifonics amp,and youll be bangin in no time.then youll get slammed on here for buying crap, but youll be loud for cheap, and if you blow something up you wont be out much cash.dont buy high dollar right off the bat.Caraudio is addictive and youll want to change systems frequently.just my 2 cents from 16 yrs of doin my own systems.

Is that 600 rms bridged into 4 ohms? I would like to stick with 2 subs and not bridge... or is there a way to bridge to 2 subs??

Well, here's the conclusion I have come to: If I want 15's, I need a better amp, something with around 400 - 500 rms per channel. Is it possible to wire a pair of 15" DVC 4 Ohm subs to a class D amp? What would be a decent amp in the $200 range to handle these?
on a side note, looks like I can not hold out on gettin a HO alt if I make this change.

you can wire 2 subs to a mono channel amp
2 15" DVC 4 ohm subs can be wired to 1 ohm or 4 ohms
a decent amp that does around 1k for $200....the best i can think of is hifonics 1206d for arond $220 shipped off ebay. personally, id raise your budget but thats just me.
from what i got from reading this is, you want 2 15" subs off of a 1000rms amp. the amp has to be under $200 and the subs can be no more than $300 total correct? if you run 1krms, chances are you can get away with it on your stock alt. how big is your stock alt? might wanna do the big 3 to help out a little bit. am i correct in all this?

You are correct. Bottom line is I want 15's so I can hit lower notes with better quality than 12's. AMP + Sub(s) < $500, < $400 if possible.

The big 3, is that HO alt, Battery, and wires?

Big 3 is your alternator to chassis, engine block to chassis, and battery to chassis. Gotta do that for sure. If you want a pair of 15s, Mach 5 MAWs would do it.

If you live in the US, you'll want to get em from here.

Woah, that was my thousandth post. MAWs might get lower. He'll be happy either way.
Personal experience:
My MAW 12s are ported and they get loud as hell IMO, handle close to double their RMS with not even a slightly warm cone, and when I just wanna listen to music, I can turn it down 'til they blend with the mids nicely, and they sound great.

Maybe I should be in the wiring forum now, but back to the big 3. Is that running new grounds to the chassis from those 3 devices?

You guys are making me afraid to turn on my current setup...
