i have three 12" JL w6v2 subs and a JL 1000/1 amp and i'd like to put the 3 subs on rear deck on my car. they would be "open air" but i would have all the air spaces from the inside of the car to the trunk sealed. so basically the trunk will be the box. it will be in a 01 ford crown victoria so it has a huge trunk. my question is: will this work? i've been told that unless the subs are in a box (sealed or ported) that is built to the exact specs needed for the subs then they will not sound good at all.

why dont you measure things and create a single wall (sealed well) to the right amount of airspace for the three subs and mount them on your rear deck and your fine

What kind of car do you have that has a deck that big to mount 3 12'' subs on it?

heres a pic of what i had in my 2000 before i wrecked it and got the 01. i had them in a sealed box under the deck. the white bars are for the trunk. they would need to be cut and i'd have to use a piston or something. but i also cut a huge hole in the deck on the 00.

heres some pics of the area on the 01.

and i cant do the wall without making huge changes to the trunk lid since when it closes the arms would smash the wall

i could easily fit the subs on the rear deck with an inch spacing between them and still have three inchs on sides from the pillar

this is an example of the why the wall wont work:

see the slits on the right and left of the amp... the trunk lid arms tuck into there.

you can do it free air but it usually cuts the power handling to about half and the spl output will probably be alot less....can you build a box around the bars and mount the subs where you wanted to

yes and no. it would cost a more than i'm willing to invest but it can be done. if that is the case i'd just leave it how i had it in my 2000. i had a neighbor with a lexus gs that had 3 diamond audio subs on his back deck and were open air and were incredibly loud. maybe his were just made for that.

well heck try free air then you dont have anything to loose and as far as I know diamond audio doesnt make free air subs
