Since we all don't want our stuff jacked an alarm is a good way to make a thief think twice. Although it won't stop them in most cases they won't stick around.

Anyone have a small list of best alarms for the money? I'm in the market for one but im sure some other people would like to know :-)

anything made from DEI like clifford, viper, lowjack(what i have), python...they make a bunch renamed. all are supposed to be good stuff.

for buying one the best bet is to look in classifieds for some jackass that bought one thinking he could install it then decided he couldnt so hes selling it cheap.

Directed makes some of the best alarms IMO, but I may be jaded because I get them at dealer cost. Viper, Clifford, Avital, and Python are all good DEI brands. You are correct in stating that nobody pays attention to alarms going off anymore. This is why it is a must to get one with a two-way pager that alerts YOU that something is up. The top line systems, like the Viper 791XV have an LCD on the fob that even shows graphically where the break-in occurred.

Can you insure your equipment? If so why not purchase insurance to cover any possible loss.
