how should i customize it?

I am hoping to use a jl 1000/1 , but i am willing to upgrade.

I wanna get noticeably louder than the w7 and retain reasonable sq.

Will sq be compromised by going with the bl over the Q due to the difference in fs's. Thanks again

do you already have a w7....

IMO, the w7 is one of the most efficient subs out there, they do amazingly well on 1000 watts compared to what some subs do on 2000

x2 cal...

trevin, you say you want the sub to be "noticably" louder than the 13w7? the 13w7 inst a punk. jl audio is very mainstream but they did a pretty good job with the w7...

ive owned an 8w7 and have heard multiple w7 setups. they are good subs.

i wouldnt go crazy with the options either, i assume a stock BL will take a 1000/1 very nicely.

btw, i own BLs now...

Cal, i already own a 13w7. Im currently running it on a slash 1000/1 ... If i need to upgrade amp, no problem...But if the bl or q will be louder than the w7 on 1k then i buy will whichever will get the job done...

well if you can upgrade your electrical to push an amp of 2000+ watts i would do THAT and grab a BTL.

just to make sure...

your electrical system is limiting you from really using any amp larger than the one you already have. if your just looking for a sub to work on 1000ish watts i would do the BL but a BTL would be sweet if you can swing it.

you can get away with spending less than 500 to upgrade your electrical system (which includes an alternator) and less than 500 for a 2000+ watt amp. then you can run a BTL...

Tremor, will be sq be comparable to that of the w7. i know that the btl's
are known for spl. I am subject to correction though.

i dont think the BTLs will sound much worse than the BLs. from the way i understand it, the BTLs dont sound much worse at all they just have an ability to get ALOT louder...

i couldnt say either way though, only Fi subwoofers i have heard were mine. w7s have great sound quality. very in depth and nice control after certain bass notes. w7s are just great all around subs.

i just woundnt get my hopes up if your expecting something freakishly better than a w7.

out of curiosity, what kinda music do you regularly listen to?

chad lee did say that.

and from watching his video playing gimme that by paul wall the sq seemed almost identical to my two BLs. of course its all video and whatnot but even though, it seemed VERY similar. even in output... :-)

Unless you plan on upgrading your charging system and running more amperage in your vehicle stick with the W7 and 1000/1.Do you have it in a high output box?

rob they don't make the high output for the JL 13.5" subs.....unless you're asking if he has it ported.....

only advantage you'll have to get louder on that power.. is the cone area

honestly i don't see much difference.. the BL will probably get louder at a high note than the W7 but unless you are going to run more power stick with the W7

what are the specs of the box the W7 is in?

oh, and IMO, the BL is not going to give you anywhere near the SQ your used to, the Q would be closer but the output I doubt would be much more

I listen mostly to hip hop. my w7 is in a ported box 2.5 cuft ported to 30 hz.

to prevent any significant loss in sq, i am tempted to try the Q. If it doesnt suit my taste, then i'll try the bl.

for the money you'd be spending.. just buy something worthy .. get yourself an Si Mag.. I've seen them on caraudio.com going for $300-$350 shipped and you won't be disappointed

.... what i mean by you spending money.. i think it is a waste buying something on a whim then not liking it, having to resell it and try something else that in turn you might not like :-)

i appreciate your advice but wouldnt i also be buying on a whim if i got the si mag or any other sub that i havent already heard. The purpose of this tread is to get opinions on subs i've never heard or else i would let my ear be my guide.

I'll try the Q on 1000rms and see how it goes.

just saying.. I'm sure most would agree Si Mag over the Q .. more output and a little better sq

I've heard one before, loved it but wanted to try the 04/05 XXX .. so thats why i never bought one myself :-)

I've heard the SSD, Q, BL, and own the BTLs. They all sound decent. The SSD and Q both have good sq. The BL and BTL lean more towards SPL than SQ, but they still sound very good in the right enclosure. I love my BTLs, but any sub can sound mediocre with a bad front stage.
I would get more power and upgrade your electrical system first, then look for another sub.

I've only heard a W7 a few times, and I wasn't impressed with it that much..

I'd go with the mag, a q, or a bl 15 over it- especially for the price.
