Gold Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 3604 Registered: Jan-06 | I already took a peak, lots of power potential for sure! I am gonna have the car in the garage tomorrow night, need to mosd the amp to run 16+ volts, just trying to find that pesky R4a resistor on the controller board . I got a good deal on tis amp not to mention it is heavy as sh!t! I have it running on 12.7V and 1.5 ohms so not even close to its potential. Polo. |

Gold Member Username: The_image_dynamicSan Diego Post Number: 2898 Registered: Dec-06 | Not quite sure if the Z1A is different than the Z1, but same power specs... here are the guts: |

Gold Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 3605 Registered: Jan-06 | Actually if you are looking at ampguts on ROE the specs listed were an error and actually are the Z1a specs, dead give away is the 16V rating! Ok, my nigga's, I went back out in the dark and took it apart for you all. BTW while doing it I found the resistor that I needed to remove for the mod and now it now runs on my 16V system at 17.8V. Enjoy...Polo. |
Gold Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 3606 Registered: Jan-06 | BTW @ 16V the Z1a produces 6700W rms on 1 ohm. I have heard fools running them at .5 and below topping out at 7500 rms, that is insane and you get people like this complaining if they drop there volatage and fry there amps, funny sh!t! Polo.. |
Gold Member Username: The_image_dynamicSan Diego Post Number: 2905 Registered: Dec-06 | Ehhh... looks to me to be almost the same parts minus the banks of output caps on the Z1. What exactly is the difference? |
Gold Member Username: Snarl2004Audioque 12 SD2.5s, Earthquake P... Post Number: 1737 Registered: Dec-06 | what are you running with this? |
Gold Member Username: JkidderGunshine , State Flawda Post Number: 2154 Registered: Nov-05 | brad ive asked steve milton thru email but only difference i know of is the caps are made by AudioCap, rca connectors are now made by Cardis and the resistors are made by Mills. i'm not familiar with Cardis or Mills tho?? |
Gold Member Username: The_image_dynamicSan Diego Post Number: 2906 Registered: Dec-06 | If Cardas makes the RCA jacks that is a shock to me because that company makes some of the best stuff in the industry. AudioCap... well they are pretty good and made in USA but I want to know what the old ones were in that case. From my fairly trained eye those amps are for the most part identical and in fact if I had to pick one solely on pics I would choose the original Z1. |

Gold Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 3607 Registered: Jan-06 | Actually I don;t know all the specs but the Z1a puts out a good deal more power especially at 12V and can go up to 16v unlike the original Z1. At 12V it is producing over 5000rms at 16V 6700 rms. This is DD rating and of course are underated. I am only using this as a daily beater and it is on a single TC 5200 and it really likes it. The Z1a is larger/heavier also, more compares to a Z2 than anything.. Polo. |
Gold Member Username: JkidderGunshine , State Flawda Post Number: 2155 Registered: Nov-05 | well if u sent it back into dd the original z1 would be able to withstand the higher voltage. called revision two, where they took care of the voltage regulation issue. brad, steve said that was new so im assuming they used lesser products on the z1? i emailed him again |
Gold Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 3608 Registered: Jan-06 | "well if u sent it back into dd the original z1 would be able to withstand the higher voltage. called revision two, where they took care of the voltage regulation issue." There were other problems that were adressed with the Z1a... Polo.. |

Gold Member Username: JkidderGunshine , State Flawda Post Number: 2208 Registered: Nov-05 | Your question could be both easy to answer or extremely time consuming to answer. We'll take the easy route in this specific case because it will come to the same ending point. The Z1a is a completely different amplifier. It does not share any similarity in design, layout, major parts or OEM manufacturer/engineers. It is more efficient than even the Z1 was, sounds even better and makes quite a bit more power. The power supply control board is completely different and the amplifier is not as finicky toward input signal voltage as the original Z1 was. The power supply MOSFETS and output transistors are not shared with the original Z1 either. Really, the only similarity is the model name. Best regards, Steve Milton |

Gold Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 3626 Registered: Jan-06 | I have no need to meter my car. I don't compete, other than out on the street and have absolutely nothing to prove to anyone, not even myself. If you really need figures you can guesstimate, everything I have is quality so figure a TC 5200 in a 4cf gross box tuned to 35hz, DD Z1a pushing at least 5k on 16V, trunk sealed off I would say at least upper 40's lOl. That isn't even a spec box for that sub, resinning the new box as I type smells nice! I have gone through that loud stage and now I am trying to mellow out with a lower tune, 30hz. It will be less loud but sq will go up and with this box has a bit less port area to add some loading to try keep it all linear as possible. The outer walls will be lined with this fiberglass matting, should sound nice. Polo. |
