depends on amp you will be using and how big your stock alternator is.

well thats another question i have is, is what amp would be good for running the sub. and i have an 92 oldsmobile bravada with 200,000 miles so i know its crappy.

then buying a ho alt probably wouldnt be a sound investment since car could crap out anytime (not sayin its crappy). do you plan on getting new car anytime soon? i personally wouldnt run more than 1500 watts on a stock alt. fully loaded 18 btl can handle 3k supposedly. whats your budget on an amp? and a battery bank would be a good idea. whats budget for batt(s) also??

well on an amp i will spend up to around 700-800 max but batteries i dont even know what average price for a good battery is so how ever much it takes. and the new car situation, its either the audio or a new car. and im in high school so a new car is gonna be hard

k...The only thing I would suggest doing would be downgrading ur system sum so you dont have to upgrade ur electrical system....

Seeing that a BTL would need at least 2500rms to get right...ur gonna have a hard time, skipping the electrical system upgrade and running that sub

Get a Fi Q or BL 12" or 15" on a GOOD 1000RMS amp. Upgrade wiring that is already there and custom box to your sub and there you go a bangin setup.

That's cheap for an alt.I paid 550 for mine.Batts are priced just about right but wire with completing the big 3 and all the little BS accessories would probably be a bit more.

okay gary, as someone already said I would go with a Fi Q (sq) or BL (spl). I have a nine.1 and I love it, also on my stock electrical, and I say get that amp as well. Dual 2 ohm sub wired to 1 ohm and it will get 1200x1 at 1 ohm, at 12.5v.

maybe you might want to look into getting a new car before you put alot of money into one that may quit on you(not saying it will but id hate to put an entire system in a car that quits you know?)

Why?Systems are easily removable...that's a very bad reason.Unless your vehicle is all fiber-glassed...it's really not a big deal.

i paid 400 for my 260 amp alt, painted and sh!t. but i feel you.

the thing that makes me angry as heLLL w/ this forum is someone comes on here with a budget of 300 for subs ppl say Fi Q or BL. if you have 500 Q or BL. gtfo. dozens of better subs for 500 dollars.

heres what you do for single sub setup like you want....

Digital Designs 9917
Digital Designs Z1 or another cheaper 4k+ amp.
2 kinetik hc2400
alternator must be 250 amp plus. (iraggi or excessive amperage)
and put out about 170 for wires. (2 runs of power and ground)

Iraggi offers a swap out deal.Add 100 to any alt for a lifetime warranty and 1 free vehicle change. After that it's 100 dollars to swap your alt out for a different alt for a different vehicle but I'm not sure he still does this.

the car i plan on buying is a scion tc. but my truck now isnt in that bad of shape its just got alot of miles on it. i know i can take the system out of my truck and put it in a newer car later on. i want a good set up for one so i can enjoy it but there is also a small competition at my school for car audio. and there is one kid that has a couple of p2's and i really want to beat him. there is like $150 winner prize so i want to get a decent setup. i prefer not to change all the wiring and all that stuff so what would be a good setup for that?

2 Fi BL's
1 Hifonics bxi2006D $343 or bxi2506D $450
1 Kinetik hc2400 or Optima Yellow Top
All wiring from Knukonceptz $150

budget bumpin system. i think you could get away with an extra battery and no ho alt. with that set up.

Gary, why don't you start off small then add on as you get more money.

Why is the wiring $170 or more? For 1000w, you don't need 2 runs of wires nor 2 batteries.

Before you shell out $1000+, go visit a JL dealer and listen to JL 10W7 in a HO box with JL 500/1 amp setup. You don't always need 2000w+ to get loud bass.

it depends on the size of the alt some come stock with 75 amp alts and some come stock with 165 amp alts so it all depends on what you have.

Here's the break down of the system I mentioned:
JL 10W7 in HO box - around $500
JL 500/1 amp - around $350
Power wire kit - $50
Labour - do it yourself $0
So you should be able to have great SQL for under $1000.
Gary, before you say 500w is nothing, go listen to one in person.

you can get a alt for 300 and a batt much cheaper. 500 is quite a bit for a sub and 800 is quite a bit for a amp. you can get a nasty system for those prices.

get a 500 watt mono amp and a 500 watt sub. your alt would be fine with that.

since your worried about not getting a new alt I recommend a JL audio amp for the reason that they use a regulated power supply and it is very light on electrical systems. I would do a Jl 500/1 and a 12w7 in a HO box. The sub you can change out for any other sub but if you do go JL amp why not make it look nice and do JL sub as well.
