How many square inches of port would you suggest for each of my SS RL-i 8"? I talked to Mike of SS and he said at least 12" each, but does that mean 14, 16, 25???? ANy suggestions?

Thanks

12.56 square inches of port in one 4 inch port x 2 = 25.12 square inches but the depth on a 4 inch is about twice as long as two 2 inches would be and its the same port area then if it was two four inches you would have four 2 inch ports

actually sean, kyle is correct 8 2inch ports would yeild ~25 sq inches of port area. but Ben go with 2 4inch cuz 8 2inch would just be mad gaay to install. and yes 2 4inch ports will be enough area for thoes.

on the other hand too big of a port area especially when using pipes or 1 pipe = 1 long pipe which sometimes often tend to be a problem when designing a box .....

yes - many times i have to sit a long time trying to reshape a box on my pc to get a single long pipe port to fit good with enough spacing at the end of the port (at least the diameter of the port) to allow proper air flow etc

pipe\aero ports r so darn easy to use but the design can be a pain in the b\utt sometimes especially when trying to get it to also fit\occupy a certain amt of space in ur car .....

haha have some fun sean

my car dimensions don't really matter. you can make the box as big or little as you want - it's only two 8" subs in a big trunk (mercury sable)

My current box is 34 wide x 15 tall x 15.5 deep. That's kinda pushing it tho. Let's say I have 36x14x14 to deal with.

I doubt your limited to 14 depth (if you really mean depth) but heres what I got so far.....

17.75 wide x 8.5 high x 8.75 deep = .76397 minus .16 for subs 87.75 inch long port

8.5 x 3 port 25.5 square inch port

17.75 long 1st port length with 1.5 for turn = 19.25
17.75 2nd port length with 1.5 for turn = 38.5
17.75 3rd port length with 1.5 for turn = 57.75
17.75 4th port length with 1.5 for turn = 77.00
10. 00 5th port length with 1.5 for turn = 87.00 plus .75 for wood thickness at the front of the port exit = 87.75 port on the side 35 hz port tune...will this fit

Here you go all done

17.75 wide internal x 8.5 high internal x 8.75 deep internal = .76397 minus .16 for subs 87.75 inch long port

10. 00 5th port length with 1.5 for turn = plus .75 for wood thickness at the front of the port exit 87.75 port on the side

17.75 wide 8.5 high 8.75 deep
3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for first port length
3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for second port length
3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for third port length
3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for fourth port length
3.00 deep plus .75 for port wall for fifth port length
18.75 inches depth plus 8.75 deep for subs plus 1.5 inches = 29.00 deep external

19.25 wide external 10.00 high external 29.00 deep external

Youll have a 4.75 wide by 3.75 wide by 8.5 high area that will need filled in with bracing and a three inch port opening for the start of your port inside the box and youll come out with about a 33.64 hz port tune

Not trying to be an a** - but isn't this giving the same thing in a simplified form? Mike from SS just told me to go to that site. No matter what I really appreciate all the work you did. I will be using all that info, I just wanted to ask about this as well.

no that is for 1.20 for both subs cubic feet net....mine was .65 net for both subs....ss recommends .30 per sub at 35 hz ....why did the site recommend 1.20 cf net?

Well I know the site recommends .3 cuft, but when I got that email from Mike, he said that I could do with a box .6 cuft each sub and tune it to 33 if I want a good SQL box. I would be inclined to go with what the site says, but if the man himself said it is cool, then I guess it would work.
