Low gain setting

I set the gains on my Kicker ZX350.2 (110W RMSx2@ 4Ohms) and Kenwood KAC-848 (100W RMSx2@ 4Ohms) and they both clipped ~ 25-30%. Doesn't this seem kind of low?
I'm driving (4) ADS 6.5" 100W RMS components and using an Alpine CD-9825 HU. I used a 1KHz@0dB test tone then a 1KHz@-3dB test tone then I decided to just use a CD with music and adjusted the gain to the same voltage as the test tones (resulting gains came out a little higher than test tones).

How did you know it was clipping 25-30%? Oscilloscope?

Use the 1KHz@0dB tone.

I listened to it and it's very easy to hear the level where the tone distorts. (I also DL a distorted 1KHz test tone for reference.)
