That guy whose vw caught fire (very sad btw) used this song in his test video, i had no idea how awesome it was on a system. Normally the bumpin songs i play are rap/hiphop, but this one i played in my driveway for a minute, and my dad walks out (normally thinks im just dumb for having a system because i live in the suburbs and go to private schools) but he was pumped because he loves it and said how great it sounded. Now THAATS a step in the right direction! but anyways, listen to that song on your systems |

Gold Member Username: The_image_dynamicSan Diego Post Number: 2455 Registered: Dec-06 | A little trivia about that huge drum sound that Phil gets in the drum fill part of In The Air Tonight. He developed a technique where he places two microphones about 20 feet from the drums in addition to the mics that are an inch away from the drums. Then, he plugs the far away mics into the "sidechain" of a noise gate so that they are only opened when the noise gate opens when each drum is struck. So... when he does that big fill in this song, the gates open the remote mics and they blend with the close mics and in effect use the entire room for natural reverb and results in that massive drum sound. This is called the "Phil Collins Sound". Listen again to that part and you will hear it. |
