Alright, here's the dealio. I'm looking at buying a Alpine Type-R 1242 (4+4 ohms) and am wondering what amp will pound this sub w/o blowing it. I understand Type-R's arent the greatest sound quality by any means (if you have any suggestions for subs that pound harder or pound just as hard with better soudn quality, let me know!)
the amp im looking at is the alpine PDX-1.1000
any idea if that amp is too much for the sub?
(again, if anyone has suggestions for a better amp or better amp/sub combo that will make your nose flutter from a block away throw them out there)

that amp is great you know cuz is digital and stuff, but IMO i wouldn't spend that money on that model. Type Rs are good subs for starters and they will bang a lot for they money you paid.

I'd buy a massive P1000.1 if i were you, from Kevin Holden with good warranty.

im getting a sundown sae-1000 from kevin holden for my two r's. u gettin 1 type r or 2? cuz 1000 for 1 type r is a little much i think. if your only getting one type r get an alpine mrp m650. 600 watts rms at 2ohms. my friend has that set-up. sounds really good.u can get one for like 180-200 shipped.

with dual 4s you could run at 2ohms, which is 600rms isn't it?

Alpine 605, Infinity 611 - something like those. 500-600 @ 2 ohms is what I'd be looking for. 1000w is a waste of money unless you think you might add another sub sometime soon.

so, should i go with the Alpine MRD-605 which is 600 rms @ 2 ohms
OR
the Alpine PDX-1.600 which is 600 rms @ 4 ohms // or 600 rms @ 2 ohms
....price isnt a concern, i just want to know which will pound harder the MRD or the PDX,
thanks

k, dumb question, but wouldnt 600 rms @ 4 ohms pound harder than 600 rms @ 2 ohms?...

no, 2 ohms means more movement and 4 ohms means less movement at more power draw. u wanna see my - r on 600 rms take a look here i just finished the box about 2 days ago and i can be heard at around 8 ft away no problem. the key is a custom box and to build it yourself.

btw sellin the amp for roughly 250 since it's barely 3 months old and i paid over 300 with 3 yr warrenty at best buy i'd give away with it, plus non abused. i got a hifonics comin thts why i'm selling it. but the amps a infinity 1600 a it's 600 rms at 2 ohms on the same exact woofer model u are bringin up.

No. 600 watts is 600 watts.

" 4 ohms means less movement at more power draw "

Amplifiers are MORE efficient (draw less power) at higher impedances. Less efficient at LOWER impedances.

M.S.

Does that mean that running a 2 ohm load to the amp is more efficient than a 1 ohm load?

ah knew i had something backwards, my bad. but yea true. i think movemeant is the only thing you really gain though by the ohm load right ?

so, ohms dont make the sub pound any harder, its just a matter of the rms your pumpin into it and the ohsm only have to do with how efficent the amp runs?

This is making my head hurt.... FFS 600w is 600w no matter what the impedance as far as it goes with car audio. Also there is no such thing as a "digital" amp. ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL amps output an analog signal no matter how the signal is delivered to them (and 95% of amps receive an analog signal via RCA's)

Now as for amp suggestions:

A) Look for a mono amp that does what you need at two ohms, it's your only real choice.

B) when looking for power for subs I'd go budget on the amp. You don't need the fancy features like crossovers and such of the more expensive amps.

C) Just avoid the BOSS and PYRAMID and pyramid type amps...

D) many amps are overpriced per watt for running subs.... such as audiobahn (overpriced paperweights), alpine, infinity, RF etc...

e) here are some suggestions:

those are just suggestions on brands... buy them where you want... personally I'd get one used from the forums... the 1200@1ohm (hence 600@2ohm) amp is probably one of the most prolific in car audio, hence used ones go cheap on forums...

Bro i was referring to their ability of putting the same output at4-2 ohms.
