In many boxes of his the sub(s) is "on top" of the ports and at 90 degree angle.

I think he means the ports are mounted under the motor of the sub

Like ReArrangeYaMind said, the ports are mounted under the motor. Take a notice at how the subs were not centered on the baffle, but instead were focused so both subs were directly under the ports. Mark doesn't use this on all of his boxes, but quite a few on his site have the same characteristics. I couldn't tell you why, it is just an observation I have made..

he does this so theres less cancalation in the box, also the back wave essentilly corner loads off the side of the box thus increaseing output.

thats what we did with our audioque 12 tuned at 35 hz the motor was right above the port....when it ended up that way I knew that would be a good thing

as far as corner loading ill have to run this by my bro for our spl box and see if the score goes up
