Sorry- ogle isn't right. The re destroyer was based off of the concept csp motor. There are several small differences in the "destroyer" motor vs. the mt motor, BUT the biggest difference (visually) is the pole vent (which the mt does not have) And mechanically- the destroyer uses a 4" coil, vs. mt's 3" coil. that particular one would be a fresh recone, i will bet on it (destroyers originally had a yellow Kevlar cone)There are a few issues with the destroyers, main one is that the 8" spiders had to be cut to make room for the 4" coil, which #1 limits xmax, and #2 was a severe weak spot in the driver. hope that helped...

that helped very much if its all accurate.

one more question though.

when were these things actually produced? and did they all come with kevlar cones?

Curious too because any destroyer I have seen did not have a yellow Kevlar cone... Polo..

I must apologize.. it seems they made destroyers with paper, and destroyers with Kevlar cone. that was my mistake, and i am sorry (Motor is the same.)
as far as the destroyers with the yellow Kevlar- they made a few.. here is a pic (although relatively crappy one) of one of em...
along with the spider issue i mentioned earlier. again- i apologize for the cone error, and i hope this also helps

You do have a few options- i know a kid selling a couple of motors, if you could get a tc sounds TI basket, and some of the 10" spiders, you would be good to go.... just a suggestion

LMS are pretty nice. i got a couple of the motors around here somewhere along with several 4hp's, and a few others. the 5200's are quite a bit louder then the lms's.. if you care

LOL I'm all over.. I'm at roe, ca.com (although i don't post there, i have like 20 posts since 04...) Caj.com, TC forums, ssa.com now ecoustics.. ill probably stay around, although i don't post much You will generally see me in the tc sounds posts, or recone posts
(i do prototyping/rebuilding/reconing, and testing on different subs...)Seems like a nice enough forum here

As far as "better" the the lms.. It really depends on what you are after. The lms is a big, power-hungry driver, that is heavily based off of sounding excellent, and getting decently loud doing it. For loudness- the tc sounds TC5200 Driver was 3-4db louder on average, and more efficient (although they still aren't the best choice below 3000 watts) and they take a SUPRE small box. Its really in what you are after. hope that helps...

Why are they rare? i don't know that, but i do know that tuan only had so many of them built (some people say 25, BUT i would guess more like 250 or so.)Tuan had them built and his team members only used so many, and i think they sold off the rest. They aren't super popular, and people seem to have a hard time getting rid of them. above that, i cant help much, other than to tell you the coils "seem" to be hard to get (David at RE can get them, and do the recone) but fi cannot recone them, nor can most any one else for some reason

so they were custom built with requests from tuan but who gave them the name?

and thats why they are rare... :-)

thanks for the update. Toxic Tuan said this-
For you information....there are 200 destroyers in existence. I myself had 25 in my possession at one point...that's not including the ones at our shop etc.

I've built a couple of company show vehicles with the destroyer of which none had a problem. Look at the new Magnum from Xcite Audio. Their show vehicle which will be featured in many magazines, Sema, and CES will have a destroyer in it.

link-
http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2123146&postcount=385 they seem to be quite the mystery

ahhh... well i cant get a direct link from the hexibase forums but here is the quote pete said...

""Destroyer" is just what we named these; they don't actually have a name. Upon assembly, there were only about 24 in existence and they're quickly becoming known as an enigma among ultra-rare woofers. Yes, they do have 4" voice coils and, yes, they do have pole vents. The only ordinary thing about these woofers is the standard 12-spoke basket. I didn't feel like yanking these beasts out of the truck to pose for pictures plus there's already a shot of 'em in my gallery:"

24. 200. whatever, their still rare... :-)

Oh for sure.. if you are interested in them- look at the concept CSP same motor! Its a shame no one knows more about them (as far as production #'s, etc)
