yea, thats the last time i will ever buy a used amp. my visonik 4000d filled my trunk with the most expensive smoke ive ever seen. i had it wired at 2 ohms and ever connection was good, i made sure of this. i read everything with a DMM to make sure everthing was at the right impedence. i used the DMM to set the gain, had the bass boost tuned low. i also monitored the voltage and it never once dipped below 13.2 the average was about 13.6 i blew my fuse and figured that it was just a bad fuse. when i put a new one in the amp powered up and i heard a loud POP! before the music was even turned on. and my car filled with smoke. the temperature was also not an issue, i made sure cool air was getting to the amp via the window behind the armrest in the back. i felt i did everything correctly and it blew. sounds like equipment failure to me. i had it goin for a week. now im bumpless again.
Cheap anything is good for at least an education. It can also be fun, depending on the cash on hand.
I don't know anyone who hasn't learned from mistakes. The best lessons they are.
The ones I don't feel sorry for are the ones who ask for advice and get it and still choose to go the cheap route. The internet wasn't an option for me when I started in audio. Today, my 6 year old son can Google something. Kinda wipes out any excuses anymore so to say lol.
Not to be a dick, but it was a Visonik ya know. This doesn't surprise me in the least bit.
Pep boys sells Visonik, right next to Pyle, lol
BTW I once tried a pair of Visonik subs for temporary cause I found them for next to nothing a yard sale....... right away the surround tore on one. And the suspension on those things was looser than a $10 hooker...... gave them some of the worst SQ I've heard from a sub.
my car smells like sh1t now too. im starting to wonder if the previous owner ran it at 1 or .5 ohms i just cant see a reason for an amp to quit that early. it is a visonik and its a low quality amp however i have a friend taht ran one for over a year before he sold it in working condition. same with the MA 4000s which has the same board. they get good reviews from users, not as far as rated output or efficiency but ive heard many say they are solid durable amps. i think theres something else going on besides the build quality, theres no excuse for an amp blowing like that when its installed correctly
my friend bought a visonik system from pepboys way way back, the system was dead in two weeks... and i remember he was pissed
not all of the amps are always bad, one amp could be defective while the one next to it isn't, it's basically luck of the draw if you get one that lasts that long...
What is the Visonik rated at 4Krms? What kind of charging system do you have, even tho the effientcy would suck i still cant see your power not going lower then 13.2 unless you have a strong power setup
