Here are some options. Most prices come from woofersetc.com. Rainbow is from speedsound.com and DLS is from mobilesq.com.

Rainbow: Power Line CMX 265 ($300)
Morel: Tempo 6 ($240)
Boston Acoustics: SL60 ($225)
DLS Reference MS6 ($255)

I haven't heard any of these, but from everything I've read in the research I'm doing these are the brands that people really like and the models in your price range. There are some MB Quart and Focal's in your price range but people complain that the highs are too harsh/sharp from these two brands.

You can get Rainbows from premier-audio.com or from 6spdcoupe on www.caraudio.com/forum. Mat D mentioned above that speedsound.com isn't a good source, but these other two options should work well.

the focals are nice. you will need an amp otherwise you will not get much out of speakers.

without an amp, is there not going to be a big difference between the focals (or whatever i choose) and the factory set? or is that i just won't be utitilizing everything they have to offer?

well the HU gives them a small amount of power then what they really need. i would put them in and they will probably be on par with the stock but once you put an amp on them you will see a world of difference.

Components with headunit power = waste of money for components. I like how Mat put it, you wouldn't really notice a difference between them and your stock speakers.

Bottom line: components and amps make a beautiful couple.

so for the components, would you recommend the focals? i want to stay around the price range of no more than $250 for the speakers.

also, what amp would you recommend? i doubt i will be doing anything with the back speakers any time soon (or maybe even not at all).

(i will be getting tweeter to install both the speakers and amp)

I APPRECIATE THE HELP!

sundown 100.2 would be nice, whats your budget for an amp. i think chad lee runs those focals or the 3way set or something pm him and ask how he likes them.

i think you can get the sundown for around 225, you also might want to look into some kicker amps from hifisoundconnection.com they have great prices. also directed makes nice amps.

Try out some of exile's X65's for coaxials, I've heard nothing but good things about them.

so without an amp, what is the difference between the comps and the coaxs just running off the hu? i understand that the comps need an amp to fully maximize their potential - but will the comps and coaxs sound about the same just running off the hu? or do the comps still provide a noticeable difference?

its hard to tell what would make you happy, in car audio its best to just do it right the first time and go all out.

that makes a lot of sense. i got a new car and am getting a new hu (pioneer premier 790bt) to go along with it. i want new speakers too but i'm a newb when it comes to speakers. so i'm just trying to learn all i can before i invest in speakers. i'm not opposed to an amp but i'm not hard core into car audio - meaning i'm not going to be getting a sub or seeing how loud i can get my system. but i do want something that isn't too expensive (maybe looking to spend around $600 including installation) and want a clear sound that will be a big improvement over my factory set.
