single, dual or quad...
1ohm, 2ohm, etc...

It's how many/resistance of the voice coils on the subwoofer. It determines how you can wire them.

Each subwoofer has a different "Impedance" or "Resistance."

The reason manufacturers provide so many different "Coil Configurations"(Otherwise known as different Impedances, eg. Dual 4 ohm, Single 2 ohm, etc.) is to provide the consumer with different wiring options.

Some examples:
1 Subwoofer -- Dual 4 ohm -- Wired in Parallel = 2 Ohm
1 Subwoofer -- Dual 2 ohm -- Wired in Parallel = 1 Ohm
1 Subwoofer -- Dual 4 ohm -- Wired in Series = 8 Ohm
1 Subwoofer -- Dual 2 ohm -- Wired in Series = 4 Ohm

A lower "Impedance" results in more power, because there is less resistance.
Think of each Coil as another subwoofer.

Damn I'm slow at typing apparently.
For the DD 9512s, it would depend on the amp you are getting.

Typically, you would get Dual 4 ohm and wire them in parallel to achieve a 1 ohm load, where most amps are stable and will give you the most power.

Although, there are a handful of amplifiers that have proven to be safe at .5 ohm, and will give you a lot of power(given that you have a decent charging system). In this case, you would get Dual 2 ohm subs.

No no no no no........ NO! *end rant*

Dual 4 ohm wired in parallel = 2 ohms total

Dual 2 ohm wired in parallel = 1 ohm total

Use this site to determine what ohm load different subs can be wired to:

Damit I didn't see that he had 2 subs......

in that case disregard the above post.

My bad Skies, it wasn't real clear that you were talkin about wiring two subs......

^^ He's getting TWO subwoofers, Dual 4 ohm in parallel would be 1 ohm total.

If it were 1 subwoofer, you would be correct :-)
