12W3V2 or 10W3V2
I mostly listen to rap and they will be run from a Kicker ZX450.2 amp. The subs will be in my trunk. Also, im thinking about building my own box, should I port the box or not?

im not sure about subs but since you listen to mostly rap i would definately go ported it gets quite a bit louder and hits those low notes better depending on what you tune it to

go with the 12 and get it ported
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_enclusure.php?series_id=12

go there for enclosure specs but if u wan rap and u seem to want jl get the w3v3 or w6v2 and get a 15 for the w3 and a 12 or 13 would be fine 4 the w6 but if not get the 12

the 12W3V2 and 10W3V2 were the same price, but for rap i want sure. I really cant go any more advanced than that because I'm on a budget. I thought about getting Apline type r's, but i heard these were better am i right? Also, in terms of the box i have already printed out all the specs for a ported box from that same jl link last night, thanks dru da jew and raymond. Let me know what u guys thing, I appreciate your input!

if getting 2 then that's pretty average price for 12w3's from jl dealers. if you get them i'd give them 300-400wrms each and port them, tuned to around 32hz. that's what i had mine at and liked them a little better than when they were sealed.

The JL site recommends them to be tuned to 30.3 Hz. Will ported still sounds better than sealed, even though my subs are in the trunk?

you'll lose a little bit of sq when you port them, but tuned that low it's not really that noticeable. they'll still sound good with a little bit more output. but in case you haven't really heard the 12w3 they aren't the loudest subs out. i drove around with my rear seats down to really get my cabin decently loud with them.

yes. also had those to. they sound o.k. with alot more output than the w3's. i'd say get a pair of r's given about 600-800wrms each ported to about 32-35hz. and you'll like them better than a pair of w3's. you have a budget for everything and doo you plan on upgrading your charging system?

I've been getting all sorts of mixed reviews. JL is hands down the highest quality sub, so they get my respect, but then again, if they arent too loud? hmm... How do those w3's compare to the kickers? I just sold my comps.

"JL is hands down the highest quality sub"

^^no....
JL does have great build quality but people new to car audio tend to think JL is the best, and honestly there not in the same league as DD RE and Fi.

"DD RE and Fi"
I've done hours of research and never heard of those guys. Maybe thats regional, but I've narrowed it down to 2 i think, the Type R's and the JL 12w3v2. I still dont understand how JL is more expensive than the Type R's if everyone is saying the type R's are better.

DD, RE, & Fi are great subs but I would reccammend Audioque HD3 if he was asking for a great sub that is better than the R's.

Here is DD for your continued research : http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/default.asp

Here is RE : http://www.reaudio.com/

Here is the Fi site : https://ssl.perfora.net/www.ficaraudio.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=15461134a601fd4/shopdata/index.shopscript

Here is Audioque : http://www.audioque.com/aq/index.htm

Here is Elemental Designs website : http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/index.php

Check them out and you will see why DD is better than JL. Don't get me wrong, JL is a great brand, its just their prices that turn people off. The reason you prob haven't heard of these is because of lack of experience at competitions and you seem to be a "mainstream" products buyer. These are not mainstream brands. MTX, Kicker, Pioneer, JBL, these are mainstream and I am sure you have heard of these, these other brand this forum speaks of (DD, Fi, RE, Audioque, TC Sounds, etc.) are very good and for a reasonable amount of money as well. I would not doubt some individuals on this forum, they obviously know more than you think. Just check out these sites and then you can be informed. JMO
