So i found out that my amp has an unregulated power supply. It is rated at 1300wrms @ 12.6v. i really want to bench the thing but nobody around here does that... i also think it's underrated (usually RF amps are right?). is there any way i can find what it puts out at 14.4v on my own?

P=A(amps)*V(volts)

well... going by what the manual says for typical draw, it comes out to 1296 at 14.4. so that can't be right. by sine wave it comes to over 2000... its the x7 btw...

well thats fine and dandy lol i must say price for power this is a sweet amp, although it limits you to a 2ohm load. but i still want to bench it...

Ok...RF X7 is rated 1500wrms @ 2ohm.

14.4v x 140a = 2016w (drawn from your electrical system)

Now, figure that the amp is 80% efficient:

2016w x 0.8 = 1612.8wrms (produced by the amp)

~1600w from a 1500w (rated) amp...VERY plausible.

Also...at 12.6v:

12.6v x 140a = 1764w (drawn from electrical)
if 80% efficient:
1764w x 0.8 = 1411.2w produced (rated 1300w)

How would you actually calculate an amps efficiency ?
Could you do it from published specs or wouuld you need the amp powered in front of you?

Obviously, power in = power out
but I mean, measure voltage and current(if possible?) going IN, and then same for OUT and divide the two ? multiply by 100?

quick question...what battery would ever give an amp 14.4volts? Last time I checked, car batteries were 12 volts.

class a/b amps are 60% efficient and class D amps are 80% efficient.
