I just bought a type x 12 and my amp is a mrd1005. It sounds weak. Its wired right, box is good. They tell me I need more than 1000 watts to push this sub. How much power do I need? What would be the best amp? IT SOUNDS WEAK!!! HELP!!!

The amp is an alpine mrd1005. 1147 clean watts. Box is a sealed .75 cubic ft mounted in the trunk of my G35. I am returning the amp tommorow and thinking of going with an Alpine pdx1.1000. Should I dump this sub, get a new box, or try a new amp? Am I just wasting money trying to get this sub to hit hard?

How large of a ported box? Will this speaker get loud in a ported box? Will a RF power 2000db push this sub?

Well if you get that amp and want that power you need to do power system upgrades to, and a bigger box with porting is always louder then sealed IMO

Ported will help and as long as you're running RMS on the sub then there's not much you can do besides port it... if that fails then dump the sub

I pulled the speaker out of the box and one of the v-coil jumpers wasnt all the way in. Now it hits load and clear. I still need a bigger ported box but I am having trouble finding one that fits in my small trunk. Any suggestions on manufacturers that I should look into?

go get one made, prefab boxes generally suck, especially ported ones.

Talk to mark potts he is the Type R expert... im sure he would still know somthing about the X.. he has a good reputation with custom boxes... and ^i agree with ctmike, only kind of box i would buy prefab is a sealed box... ported never again.

The type X is a great woofer - its quiet 100% because of the box. Don't waste your $ on the amp, the sub won't handle it in that box.... but with a nicely made ported box (nudge nudge =)) you could throw more power down, although I still wouldn't suggest more than 1500 watts.

The type x is rateed at 1000 rms and 3000 max. I think I need a 1.8 cu ft ported box but my trunk is tiny. Can anyone out there build me one for a good price?

www.spkrman.com for the best type X box for your car :-)

I wouldn't waste the $ on a new amp, the difference will be marginal at best or less power. Lets not forget this is a dual 4 ohm woofer.

CAREFULLY used, they can for a few minutes in the proper box. 1500 is really the limit of "safe"... and your still going to blow it with moderate clipping.

The X can be cleanly taken to its limits without failure, but passing those limits is very easy since you can't really tell when its struggling. You know when the R is approaching its limits, it sounds like garbage once you really really push it.

lol i forgot to post this... +1 for this wierd you have to preview forum.
