Title says it all, do you think running 800-1000 RMS would be fine for a stock 97 Blazer alternator? I recently had it rebuilt, but im still not 100% sure if it can handle it.
The set up would be 1 15" SSD, and a A8002v amp. I know the amp is probly actually around 600 RMS, but I will be upgrading soon, so I will say 800-1000 RMS to be safe.
um i had an extra batt. and it didnt hurt it helped my voltage didnt drop as bad and i dont have a HO alt and many ppl have extra batts w/o upgrading their alt
if his amp draws alot of current its not going to help him. if his alt can barly support his amp adding another battery isnt going to help. a battery stores power not makes it. the battery will just put more of a load on the alt. so now instead of the alt struggling to charge his one battery and power his amp it now has to try and keep another battery charged.
Blaze, the answer to your question is yes -- I have a 94 bazer which had the same alt as yours. I ran 800 watts on it with not even a big 3 upgrade, and the voltage never went below 13 unless I played the system at full volume at idle for several minutes.
However, a big 3 upgrade wouldn't hurt since it's cheap.
It's when you upgrade the alt + to batt +, battery - to the frame, and engine block to the frame wires with heavy gauge wire. It's required for an HO alt, but on a stock alt with only 800 watts, it probably won't do much.
Best way to tell is to hook it up see if you get any dimming if you do, you could get a HO alt and upgrade the big three depending on how bad the voltage drop is.
