a better question would be.

why *wouldnt* it be ok?

You can seal the box with anything fron duct tape to chewing gun... how long that seal lasts and will it hold up to the pressure is the only concern.

I believe it would work well, but what do I know. I have always used liquid nails. Seems to work well. If you want to go the extra mile, paint the inside of the box(after sealing) with (latex based?) paint. Cheap form of "resin", it wont add strenght, but it will allow for easy air flow and seal the pores in the wood.

chewing gum can work just as well, and for last second SPL builds I've used duct tape... although most of my boxes dont need any sealant anyway.
