quick question for you. how do you go about cutting the subwoofer hole out? just draw the circle and then cut it out with a jig saw? or the router method?

Also, do you cut inside the line and then sand so its perfect?

On my third box now, can't seem to get it *perfect*.

I use a jigsaw. I always cut outside the line so if i need to i can sand it.

router is the only way to get things perfect, you'll never get there with a jigsaw :-)

Logan,

While I can appreciate your disdain for routers, they do have their benefits, especially if you need to do subwoofers in a recessed/flushed mounted application.

But, router's are not really required for cutting the cutout's for subwoofers, a jigsaw will do the job just fine.

I need somthing that can take a pretty good beating... i hit train tracks a little hard at times... really Sh!tty ones.. MDF would prolly crack or somthing when the box bounces day after day.. but if u can do it with 1" mdf... im still good with that lol

well the thing is i dont really have much room as it is so the bracing would take more of the space up.. and cedar... no brace needed its solid as a rock.. u can set a car on my 6cu 40hz dual 12 box..cedar and oak :-) but it cost me like 150$ in wood... haha.. but i wasted alot of it

cedar is a soft wood, btw.

Birch is a much better material.

Your still going quite overboard.

my bad i meant to say birch im an idiot haha i grabbed a cedar board by mistake and used it to make one of the tuning boards lol ... and i can say the birch\oak were a B!tch to cut and sand... is that why you said why not mdf logan.... is it that much easier to cut and sand? lol

Do you have pics of the end grain on your sheet of solid oak and/or birch? Thats very... very... very expensive. MDF is quite obviously not a plywood, lol.

btw i only suggested mdf to maybe be consider as a plywood is because its a man made wood, like pressed and glued and stuff.. not like birch and oak.. i dont have pics that would show that, i took them after i sanded it and carpeted the box.. u might be able to find some old ones on here but that wood was deffinetly not cheap.. like i said it was about 150$ or so

MDF 3/4" thick or 1" thick for something that needs to be stronger

In that case he would have to make it I-Mortal, or I/Mortal as in "I am a mortal man". Otherwise people will just think he is a tard

A lumber yard is the only ones who *might* have 1" birch or oak... your better off just laminating a .25" panel on top of .75".

Logan,

I was trying to find your "anyone need a box built #1" yesterday. A friend of mine is upgrading his system in a few weeks when taxes come in. I showed him ROE, and recommended RE, FI, and SI. He wants to run one 15" on a 1000w. He has an $800 budget though for sub, box, and amp. I wanted to show him your previous work, could you put a link to it on here? maybe it's time for a part three?

Logan, you made these designs for a 15" Fi SSD:
http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=36&Eh=17&Dia=9&Xmax=24&Vd= .17&NumW=1&Vb=3.5&Fb=34&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0
But I noticed that you had the Xmax as 24mm and the tuning frequency as 34hz. The website has the SSD as 21mm Xmax and tuning frequency as 33hz. So is the box you made correct and/or better?

Alright ill talk to some people, those pics almost gave me a bon3r ...OT if the box is higher then the rear seat level in a SUV that would disqualify me from any street beat comps..if i read the rules correct? But its going to be my daily setup!! :-( how g@y

Ok so will this be the best then?
http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported-box.asp?Ew=36&Eh=17&Dia=9&Xmax=21&Vd= .17&NumW=1&Vb=3.5&Fb=33&Qts=&Vas=&Fs=&CE=0

Cut the hole in the top right of the box? Sub up, port pointing to the back of the SUV?
