What is the best SQ 8" subwoofer (or midbass speaker I guess) on the market? They are generally pretty cheap, but I'll put a limit of $150 anyways. Thanks for the help...it's appreciated!

I thought they were dropping the Assassin and Havoc??? Or are they just coming out with the new models of them?

Anything else?

Read into it...they are upgrading I guess. Anyway, there are no better 8" out there-these are only $50, so I assume there is. Maybe not???

JL 8" W7. But those go for around 250 on ebay.
Sound Splinter - RLi 8 - 300rms. 165$
RE - RE 8 - 175rms dont know price. I would go with the SS's.

I wouldn't spend that much on on the JL and the RE is like $100. So between the RE, Assassin, and SS, you think the SS?

Why are you going so cheap on the sub? What is your goal?
Before you diss JL, listen to JL 10W7 in a HO box. It's a bit costly, but worth the investment.

Are u using this as a subwoofer or a midbass driver? Between those choices, I would take the SS. It handles 125 watts more then the RE. The re re has 12.7 mm of one way excursion, the SS has 18.3 mm of one way excursion. That means the SS moves 50% more air at full power. The SS is a more efficient driver and has a stronger motor. I would also dare to say it sounds better then the RE, but i have heard niether.

I wasn't dissing the JL...I just don't want to spend that much for midbass. I will be doing a 15" Q or equivalent as well, but I would like to put in 2 8"s to add some punch after I cut the Q off at 80hz or whatever.

So, Nick, it's going to be a midbass driver. Thats why I stated the best SQ, because I will be moving plenty of air at lower frequencies.

That changes things. A midbass driver will need to play a wider range of frequency, and moving air is not such a large factor any more.

I honestly don't know to much about midbass drivers. The subs I mentioned would, IMO be overkill/misused in that application. Look at tangband drivers, I have heard good things about those.

The RE RE might work well as a midbass, but the JL and SS are def subwoofers.

Yeah that is why I was asking. I would still possibly make a box for them, but I would need them to go from like 80hz to 200hz or so I think.

There is a video on roe.com of a ss rl-i 8" that is just amazing for an 8" sub. That would be what I would get.

I am leaning towards Assassins. They are upgradig them and they are CHEAP too. Any idea of the frequencies those will hit? A lot of 8" say like 30hz-300hz...any ideas? I didn't see that on the site. Thanks

OK...I will look into it, but I certainly don't need them to pound or anything...just add a little midrange thump. I will probably go with the Assassin. Unless someone has an amazing idea, it would be hard to beat $50 for the AA.
