so you plan on using caps to power your amps? is that what that says? don't use caps., you don't really need them.

i always thought that but ppl who don't know as much as the guy on here always see my lights dim n say aw you should hook up one of your caps and it won't do it no more...they have no idea what the difference is between one farad and 15 farads is...but i thought i might ask here ...maybe 3 farads might be enough for the amp since it ain't all that...but what i really want is a 150 - 180 amp alt.

i always thought caps were just to kind prevent a shock in a way...like when the bass hits all of a sudden so your car won't get that much of a surprise or something

well i guess what i'm really tryin to find out is how many farads to u need for how many watts... for example... 1 farad = X watts??...and also can u run more then 1 caps to a single amp

the general rule is 1000 rms=1 farad, be safe and double that amount IMO. but what you really need is a new alt and a kinetik HC battery

right now i have a red top in there under the hood...that wouldn't be good enough with a 160 amp alt would it....i plan on upgrading from my 12" cvrs to a 15" hd3 if that makes any difference

heres the formula i use for amperage draw. if you have a class d amp then it is:
1.20 X (rms watts)/ 14.4 volts = amperage draw

i.e. 1.20 X 3000 rms/ 14.4= 250 amps drawn

so then is mine 1.20x 1500 / 14.4 = 125 amps???

if your running 1500 RMS, and to be on the safe side i like to run the numbers on 14.4 volts and 12 volts and then kind of meet in the middle i would say 140 or 150 amps would suit you fine with 1500 rms total ( be sure to factor in all RMS wattage though )

well my amp says 1000 watts rms x 1 @2 ohms <2% thd+n 1500 watts dynamic power x 1 @ 2 ohms (14.4 vdc) rms power ratings @ 12.5 vdc 20 hz-200hz
