It is only there to give suport to the fiberglass. One guy I know uses old sheet. Forms them to the shape, cuts out any wrinkles, and just brushes on some resin. Once the resin dryies, it hard enough so that he can add mat and fiber to do the build up. fleece is thirst, so you will need a lot of resin to wet it, where as sheets will take less, But fleece will initally be stronger, however with sheets you can add layers of mat and cloth to firm it up.
