Building a wall

Well I will probably be building a wall in my winter car. It will have 4 12"s off 6k rms. I was talking about it with a friend who knows some car stuff. He suggest I build at least a 10cu ft sealed box as it will "seem" louder then a ported wall. I want to hit over 150 and want to scare the crap outa people who sit in it. Will the sealed sound louder than the ported? As sealed will be able to handle the lower notes better and lower notes are louder on the human hear. Db wise it wouldn't be louder than a ported...

is this correct? Any ideas or help?

thanks

its all about the port area when you do a wall.

Well the port can be as big as needed....but would sealed be a safe route to go with a wall?

I have never seen a sealed wall before. The car is an 89 ford Escort, hatchback.

Well its 4 12"s...and they are not the best SQ subs..lol..

Premier 1k rms and 3k max.

The reason for those subs is that I allready have 2..and they get pretty loud. 2 12"s in my Saturn trunk get 145.9 db I havn't hit below 145 with em.

But yeah ported would also be easier to build as I dont need to make any technical measurements.

a wall isn't suppose to give you sq. if you want sq then you should build a nice sealed box. since you have a hatchback, you can get loud still. after all its 4 subs so you will get loud.

now if you are going to build a wall, put all subs on the passenger side and put a big azz port on the driver side. it will still hit lows. just because you port a box doesn't mean its not going to hit the lows.

I was told a sealed box would "sound" louder than a ported....but when tossed on a mic sealed would put out lower db than ported.

is this right?

and a big ace sealed wall would be easier to make than a ported one as sealed needs so define measurement....its s closed box, or rectangle.

would the subs operate right in a 10cu box, if sealed? i notice with my subs if i block the port hole the subs XMAX is alot greater and the subs dont seem like they want all the power i give to them anymore... the subs do more then they should in other words... and the combing looks like it wants to blow out

ya i too never saw a sealed wall

oh & i currently own a premier 12 3000\1000wrms - i hope u know those rec box specs pioneer/premier gives totally sux since any pio/pre subs just like large boxes ex pio 306 they rec a 1.65cuft when in fact it needs a whole cube more

currently running my pre sub in a 3cuft box slot ported low around 33hz & it rocks hard aka travelling bass & actually alters ur voice if u try 2 talk inside my ride ......

Yeah Rovin, I have 2 right now as well in a triangle box tuned to 47hz...not 100% sure on cuft but its around 4-5cuft. Running them off a Helix Dark Blue 1000.2 145.9db is the highest score I have gotten and I havnt hit below 145. IASCA and db drag.

So for a sealed wall with 4 12's I would wasnt at least 10cuft and 12-13 for max wickedness.

whats traveling bass? You cant hear the passenger next to you in my car.
