mostly want to know at what wattage should we consider the threshhold for "time to do the big 3"?

any.. any increase in voltage will make a system happier even if its only 600rms..

these are not in order..

1) Battery (+) to Alt (+) .. output side.
2) Engine to chassis ground (off the alt bolt will work)
3) New battery ground

depends 1/0 is the best bet. if you just have a stock alt. and stuff 4g is fine

i have 4ga. on mine. but my amps will NEVER pull more than what the 4ga. is rated at, and i am eventually going to go from 2 to 4 ohms on my bass amp. further reducing current draw:-)

so hook a wire from the chasis to any bolt on the alt???

^^^ yes, i have my grounded on one of the 'ear bolts' (mounting brackets)

it is best if you can ground to the back of the alt's housing, but the brackets work as well. (plus they're more convenient :D)
