Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 13:59 GMT "with the gain turned up only half way" that right there could be the problem. learn to set your gains right or take it to a place and have them set it.

Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 14:18 GMT ctmike is right. See - half way up or all the way down, all the way up DONT MEAN SH:T, can you get that simple concept. YOU HAVE TO MACH THE HU OUTPUT WITH AMPS SENSITIVITY DUH. So lets say if you have an 8V head unit and a PPI Art series amp with an input sensitivity of 0.2-2V, that means that even if your gain IS ALL THE WAY DOWN it will still be too "high", because Art amp can not take 8V even if you set it to be the least sensitive, so it will clip duh. Well that was an extreme example, but please GET THE POINT.

Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 15:19 GMT Never blown a sub in my life actually, well I have fried some passive xo's however. And do have a couple of Peerless 8's, but thinking to upgrade fairly shortly. And why would I be the stupid one? If I were considered to be stupid then you in comparison would have a brain of a primate

Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 15:20 GMT "my head unit is only 2 volts and the gain was on 4 volts" still sounds like your clipping them some doing this, and if your using bass boost that don't help. have you set them with a dmm?

Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 15:23 GMT Well, what kind of HU is it? There is a possibility that the HU is sending a clipped signal (when the volume is turned up high)

Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 15:45 GMT i am sure rick has been around long enough to know how to set gains on the amp. besides whether he set it right or not, half way gain should not fry the subs. all i can say is that the cvr's are poorly built subs and can't handle power above their rated 400wrms. when i had my cvr's hooked up to a 1000wrms amp, i started to smell the vc burning at high volume so i turned it down and was able to save the sub from further damage.

Wednesday, October 25, 2006 - 00:36 GMT Check your box to make certain it is sealed. You should particularly check that the holes for the subs are large enough (but obviously not too large). I would gamble you have leaks.
