Hi I'm installing some av equipment in my civic coupe (99) and i'm just about to cut into the wires from the cigarette lighter to get my 12 volt supply. I'd like to just confirm which wire is which.

I have: red (12volt?), yellow (????), and black (ground?).

Could anyone tell me if my assumptions are correct? Many thanks.

Also I'll get some pics put up when I'm done - I think you guys are gonna like it

Why don't you just use the stock power/ground/ACC from the stereo harness?? I wouldn't cut into the wires for your cigarette ligher, it's extremely limited as to how much amperage can run through it..

Hi Mick, many thanks for the reply. I've been getting a lot of mixed responses about how to do this. The last guy who gave me advice on this today told me to run 4-8 guage wire directly from the car battery ( http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=940528&posted=1#post940528 ) which i'm starting to think is overkill. However I have also heard that if I run the power from the back of the stereo the wires may get overloaded and start a fire. I'd be very interested to learn your opinion on this?

One other think Mick. I've found a diagram of the wiring for the harness behind my stereo http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/HA-Wiring.pdf . Can I be right in thinking that I just need to tap into wires 'N' and 'O' and run BOTH the power inverter AND the screen from here using a 10 amp fuse between the stero and the screen and another 10 amp fuse between the stereo and the inverter. I really think I'm getting somewhere now. If you click the link to my post at Mp3car.com you'll see the problems I've had so far. (hehe)

Thanks Mick

If you're going to be running a power inverter, let me know how many watts it puts out and how many it pulls in (or the make and model so I can find the information on my own) and then I'll be able to give you advice on your situation.

Hi Mick,

The inverter is 12vDC in and 240vAC out ( http://www.veba.uk.com/productsNew/avpips2.html )

and the monitor is ( http://www.veba.uk.com/productsNew/av70mbs.html )

Thanks for your replies Mick, I've spoken to a lot of people with mixed ideas but you actually sound like you know what your talking about, thanks. :-)
