What happenns when you put a speaker in a larger sealed box? JL recommend .625 and the box i have is 1.85. How will this sound?

if you go too big the sub is mode likely to bottom out on lower notes.

a larger box will just exaggerate the low end a little more and you may lose some upper extension.

Kebo, go with the proper box size. Bigger is not always better, especially in car audio.

Arc suggests .9cuft for their Flatlines. This is because they can boast higher power ratings for the sub (ala Adire with their silly 1600watt rms ratings of the Brahma). So the .9cuft is optimal considering the tradeoff in performance and power handling (smaller box~higher the power handling). But if power handling isn't a concern, then (for me and my Arcs) 1.5cuft would be optimal, depending on how you like your Qtc.

A Qtc of .707 will be as close to the original production as possible (I'm a .6-.7 guy).
So you kind of have to monitor the T/S specs yourself to get an accurate reading
(or call the company). http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=29

What model sub is it? I personally would never use anything less than one cube for a 12".
Low-end extension isn't going to be likely, but the higher frequencies will be more pronounced.
I wouldn't jump any larger than 1cube from .7cubes.
Like Isaac said, build another box if your an sq guy.

better yet, just call JL yourself and ask the question, I think 1.8 is way to big and will not sound correct, maybe no more then 1.0-1.25 per sub. even after taking sub displacement, i think it is to big. JL 1-954-443-1100

I really wish eD would release the NINe.5 amp cause from what i can see the sub channel will put out a good bit of power.

if your going or want a 5 channel, and use that sub, get the 2 ohm version, or get a dual 4 ohm sub if your going to use just 1 sub.
