Hey, I have just purchased 2 kicker l7's 12" and a kicker zx1500.1. I now need to buy or make my enclosure box. Should I put them in a sealed box or a ported/vented box?? I want the subs to be LOUD, but maintain sound quality. Car shops around town only have 1.2 and 1.5 cubic feet seperate chamber boxes. I found one shop that had the authentic kicker L5 dual vented box(06DS12L52). The subs would be going into a trunk setup. What would be my best option?

if you are going for SQ...then sealed is your best bet.

if you are not primarily worried about SQ...then tuen them low in a relatively smaller enclosure, that should help with the SQ a bit.

sealed or ported.... i would go ported...no point in sealing L7's

also if u have a nice front stage....it will somewhat hide the fact that the L7's dont have amazing sq...

now i no someone will post something saying bs or something...but remember sq is subjective...

sealed still gets loud. i've heard 2 L7 15s sealed firing toward the back in a tahoe and it gets loud. his car sounds darn good too.

I would say just port them because like others have said that they arent the best for sq neway so you might as well just port them so they get loud.

L7s can get loud sealed but from my experience they actually have better SQ in a small-medium ported enclosure.

I guess ported it will be! What do you guy think about the Kicker 06DS12L52. I got a shop trying to sell it to me for $100(just the box). I think its tuned at 45hz and both subs only have 1 BIG port. Should i buy this or just make one?
Thanks for all the replies.

Check it out i found the 06DS12L52 box on CircuitCity.com. Its a nice box, but will it perform? The L5 and the L7 both have the same air space recommendation, so is it okay to use this box?

Check it out here

Does anyone know what its tuned at??

Subzone HD-12VSQ

These are tuned to 40hz.
Which one would be better? Does anyone recommend something else? I have experience building previous boxes, but would need help with tuning and correct measurements. But the way im looking at it is if i could buy a good box for less than $100 why bother making it.
